DIY Solar Eclipse Viewer Cheap Method

in #diy7 years ago (edited)

Hey guys I'm coming at you with a quick DIY for the big eclipse of August 21, 2017. If you are like me and forgot to purchase glasses, you are in luck because I have a method that is super easy to do and you won't miss the eclipse. And on top of that, you will feel like you are back in grade school for Arts and Crafts. Lets get to it...

For this project you are going to need:
Cereal Box (in this case I used a Cracker Box)
Piece of Paper
Scissors
Aluminum Foil
Pencil/Pen
Tape

1st thing you want to do is cut both ends of the top of the box. One side will be used for the sun to enter, and the other side is the side that you look into. Next, measure a piece of paper that will fit into the bottom of the box. Tape or place the paper inside of the bottom of the box so that it does not move. After that you will place aluminum foil over one corner of the box that you previously cut. Finally, poke a hole in the center of the aluminum foil. That's all.

You are going to want to have your back to the sun and allow the light to enter via the hole you placed in the aluminum side. Your viewing hole will be on the other side of the box that you cut. Enjoy.

I will be viewing in Brooklyn, NY. Here is a link for my fellow New Yorkers:

Thanks for stopping by. Hopefully you all get out there and get to experience this "once in a lifetime" opportunity (for some: I believe the next one will be 2024, but don't quote me on that).

Take care and stay safe out there,
Pete

Ha! That's the beauty of DIY, you save some $$$, then with the money you save you can invest more into crypto.

this is an Excellent post that was truly once in a lifetime experience

Thanks. Next one should be 2024, so you have 7 years to prep. Hopefully we will be Steem Millionaires by then...

Have not heard from you in a while , you're lucky to be able to see the eclipse . NYC just missed it :(

But it's still looks like a fun project to try out . Cheers 🍻

2:45 pm in NYC will be the max eclipse. It won't be a full eclipse, but better than nothing. In other words, you still have time to check it out. Partial eclipse begins at 1:23 pm and it ends at 4 pm.

I'll be looking forward to something then , great news
