YuGiOh - New Link Monsters Bring Decks Back From the Dead

in #yugioh7 years ago

With the changes in Master Rule 4 everyone knew a lot of decks would either have to get new support or people would just have to stop playing them. Subterrors were the first to get link support , and their new link monster will be available on October 20th when Circuit Break comes out. But, just when I thought I'd seen it all, Konami goes and drops these on us.

Qliphort Genius (pictured above), and Cherubini, Black Angel of the Burning Abyss, we're announced back in the beginning of September but up till now we didn't know what they looked like or even their names. But now we know exactly what they are, and here's what you have too look forward to in the coming months.

Genius is a Link 2 that surprisingly doesn't require Qli monsters, instead you just need 2 machine monsters. And just like all other Qli, Qliphort Genius is unaffected by spells and traps but its also unaffected by other Link monster's activated effects. Of course it wouldn't be a Qli monster if its effects stopped there. Once per turn you can target a face up monster you control and a face up moster your opponent controls and both of those monsters have their effects negated until the end of the turn. This might sound bad but if you're playing this in a Qli deck its amazing because now your Qli are at full power facing off against something that's much weaker thanks to Genius. And Since Qli are a pendulum archetype, if two monsters a summoned at the same time to the zones it points to, you can add a level 5 or higher machine monster (read 1 Qli monster) to your hand. It does only have 1800 attack but it also gets the boost from your 1 scales, and Qlipper Launch if you're running that.

Cherubini, Black Angel of the Burning Abyss, its a mouthful but its effects make it more than worth it to consider running this one. First of all monsters in its link zones can't be destroyed by card effects, which makes this great already but that's not all.
Once per turn you can send a level 3 monster from you deck to the grave to give a Burning Abyss monster its attack and defense. And last but definitely not least, it Cherubini would be destroyed by battle or an opponents card effect, you can send another monster you control instead. That's crazy! It doesn't even have to be linked like with Proxy Dragon. And keeping with the Rank 3 theme BA is known for this card takes 2 level 3s to play, meaning if you have access to Rank 3 spamming this is an ideal card for you.

Finally we have the card everyone's been talking about, Crystron Needlefiber. Taking just 2 monsters to make, one tuner and one non tuner, Crystron Needlefiber is going to be in every deck, and it might even end up getting banned a few months down the road. Its first effect lets you Special Summon a level 3 or lower tuner, and with all the ghost girl cards out right now everybody has at least one or two in their decks. Its second effect isn't quite as useful but can still be broken in the right decks, since it lets you banish Needlefiber to Special Summon a tuner synchro from the extra deck and it is counted as a Synchro Summon, so all of your on summon effects will work. The only problem is that you can only use that effect during your opponents main or battle phase. But that does still leave Crystron Quandax, Formula and Accel Synchron as viable options for that effect since they all let you Synchro on your opponents turn.
Even with how good its second effect could be, its still over shadowed by its first effect, which turns a Gofu in hand into a free link 4. Special Summon Gofu, and get the two tokens, then use Gofu and one token to make Needlefiber who Special Summons a turner, use Needlefiber plus your last token and tuner to make a link 4 like Topologic Bomber Dragon, or Firewall Dragon. Crystron Needlefiber is just one of those cards that's destined to be an extra deck staple.

We know these cards are coming to the OCG on November 25th, in the Link Vrains packs, but only time will tell when we'll see them over here in the TCG.

Thanks for taking the time to read this article, up vote and resteem to help spread the word to other players!
