Silence

in #writing7 years ago

Here in this space, she is alone.

Alone with her feelings, alone with her thoughts. Not really alone at all.

She sits on the floor, bare feet layered with dust, watching time pass through the world outside glass window panes. When the sun begins to set, she strikes a match to light a candle. Curled up on cold stone, she is asleep before the scent of sulfur fades.

The light wakes her up while the sky is still dark, the bulb overhead brought to life with a crackle of current. He scoops her up in his arms and carries her down to bed, setting her next to pajamas already laid out on the covers.

He leaves without a word and closes the door behind him. She yawns.

No, she was never really alone at all.

There's a stark immediacy to this writing. I love the reminder of connection, that even in her solitude she is never really alone: first, it seemed to me, with her own inner life for company ("Alone with her feelings, alone with her thoughts. Not really alone at all."), then with somebody who loves her enough to carry her to bed when she falls asleep on the floor.

Beautiful, minimalist writing and a seemingly simple story that actually works on multiple levels. Really nice piece @ellievallie :)

Thank you for understanding everything I was trying to say with this piece.

💚

Your articles are so pure that I really love reading them always whenever I read them I go into some other state

Thank you so much!

Silence they say is golden. It allows the mind and soul to be at rest, which in turn makes one mentally alert. Keep up the good work

This is the truth, and I will!

I am looking forward to more of your quality posts

"Alone with her feelings, alone with her thoughts."

Nice story @ellievallie, I like this part
