Day 13 - 6/3 St Lucia to Richards Bay

Left later than expected. Our lift only arrived around 8:30am. Got walking around 9:30 or so. Had a short stretch of forest and wetlands to walk through and then on to the beach. We started off with a lovely cool breeze, compacted beach sand and wide beaches to walk on. As the day progressed the wind got harder. It was pushing us from behind which was great, however it does come with it's downfall of been sandblasted from behind. our legs were red by the end of the day. About 15kms into our walk, approuching the Tugela River on the distance, the beach starts getting very narrow. there are parts that we are unable to walk, we have to go up the dunes and walk across the tops of them to avoid ending in the ocean. This was tough, your shoes end up full of sand and the vegetation is not easy to walk between. You end up zig-zagging instead of a nice straight stretch. We could see the Tugela Light house in the distance, which gave us hope to continue on our way. We knew there would be a hot shower, warm meal and an awesome bed waiting for us. That makes such a difference at the end of a walking day to help you feel human again.

We arrived at Sensauyma Backpackers around 5:30pm. Cyril who manages, was so accommodating and arranged us a wonderful meal - fish & Chips & Salad. Talk about spoils. Quinton who runs the bar had an ice cold Oros and a Cranberry Juice for us. Ashley, Quintons girlfriend kept the conversation flowing. Love young couple.

We filled our bellies and had the most beautiful sunset over the river, before we decided to get settled for the eve. #steemtravellers #cryptotravellers #travel #schoolofminnows #southernafrica #walkwithme #southafricancoast #learnandshare #beautifulflavours #vibrantcolours #oceanlife
