This generous act was prompted by a memecoin project called Neiro on Ethereum (NEIRO), which had airdropped 4% of its total supply to Buterin, hoping to attract attention to their token. Buterin sold all these tokens and subsequently donated the proceeds, honoring a request from the NEIRO team to support a stray dog shelter.

Buterin used this opportunity to encourage the memecoin community to donate directly to charities instead of sending assets to him.
