The Geek in JP #1 : Kinkaku-ji | The Golden Pavilion in Kita-ku, Kyoto

Kinkaku-ji which literally translates as golden pavilion is one of Kyoto's most famous landmark. Kyoto contains around 2,000 temples and shrines. One of which is the amazing golden pavilion. On peak seasons like the golden week and the silver week, crowds of tourist come by to visit the place.

Kinkakuji was built to echo the extravagant Kitayama culture that developed in the wealthy aristocratic circles of Kyoto during Yoshimitsu's times. Source: Japan-Guide Site

The golden pavilion is built overlooking a large pond, its golden reflection shimmering across the rippled surface of the pond.

Upon entering the gate, you will have to pay the admission fee which is JPY 400. Oh by the way, you can also get a flyer which has an English translation regarding the history of the pavilion. After which, you will be guided by a monk to the first viewing area. From there you will see the golden pavilion surrounded by the calm waters and islets of the pond.
The monks will then lead you to the garden path.

Actually there were lots of structures in the area but I was really mesmerized by the beauty of the golden pavilion that I forgot to take pictures. Forgive me. Hehehehe

How To Get There

From Osaka :

Take a train from Osaka Station to Kyoto Station : JPY 920

From Kyoto Station:

Take Kyoto City Bus # 101 or 205 from Kyoto Station to the Kinkaku-ji Michi bus stop : JPY 230
It would be better to avail the 1 Day Bus Pass at JPY 600 to save more on getting around Kyoto.
