Egypt is Boring?!? Check Out This Top 10 List of Intresting Places To go to in Egypt Other Than The Pyramids!

in #travel7 years ago

So most people when they think about Egypt they immediately think about the Pyramids and I can understand why... It's one of the world's most famous historical wonders that was made over 7000 years ago!

The only issue is that because the Pyramids and ancient Egyptian history is so prominent, it tends to overshadow some aspects of our culture and other cool places you can visit here in Egypt.

Today, I'll try and bring to surface just some of the many amazing historical and tourist attraction sites that you should be planning to visit on your next trip to Egypt! (BTW, this list is no particular order!)

The Cairo Tower

As a kid, I remember going there and I gotta tell you, the experience was phenomenal! I went up to the highest floor and just stood there admiring the great view. It has an amazing view of all of Giza as well as The Nile River.

Other great things about the Cairo tower is that it has a spinning restaurant... yes spinning, it spins around the diameter of the tower to give you a continuous 360 view of Egypt!

To be completely honest, the food there wasn't the greatest, but they more than make up for it with the superb scenery. This is definitely a place you should check out!

Amr Ibn El Aas Mosque:

Amr Ibn El Aas mosque was generally the first mosque to be built in Egypt and all of Africa. It is believed to be built around the years 641-642 AD. It was first made out of palm trees, mud bricks, and stones, but then it got restored in the year 1980.

Again, when I was a kid, I went on a field trip there and till this day, I regret not bringing a camera with me! I know I can just go and take pictures now, but the fun I had that day will never come back.

The interior design of the mosque is really cool! It has all these pillars and is generally built with an Islamic architecture.

I remember this one lady that me an my friends kept joking about her being dead because she wouldn't and didn't move for literally 2 hours. we were a bunch of kids mind you not, so we had some really dumb sense of humor! There is another part to this field trip which I'm going to mention in number 3.

The Hanging Church:

This is the second place I went to on my school field trip. The Hanging church also known as Saint Virgin Mary's church is a Coptic orthodox church located on top of the Babylon fortress which raised it a few meters of the ground hence, the naming.

The interior design is absolutely glamours! it has an open ceiling and the walls are all covered in artistic engravings. One of the things I really like though, is the fact that there is an illusion inside the church. There is this part in the floor where if you look at it, it looks as if you are looking at the bottom of an ocean!

it's also a site for several Mary apparitions sightings which could be interesting if you're into the supernatural. I really enjoyed my trip there!

Saint Catherine Mountain:

This a place that a lot of people know about. Saint Catherine is a city located on the outskirts of El Tur mountain in south Sinai. It's allegedly the place where Moses talked to God and received the ten commandments.

Being in a very remote place several kilometers above sea-level, it gets drenched in snow almost every year which is my favorite part about that site.

I know you guys might think that snow fall is a normal thing, but here in Egypt it NEVER snows, so to have a place inside your country that has snow fall there while also having a beautiful scenery is astounding!

It also contains multiple ancient Egyptian temples that were dedicated to the goddess of love, music, and beauty Hathor back in the old days.

Saladin Citadel of Cairo:

I really love the citadel. it's one of the few Islamic historical sites to be mentioned and have international movies made about it! The citadel was built by Saladin between 1176-1183 to protect himself against the crusaders danger.

It's the place where mohammed ali mosque is located. I personally love the citadel, mainly because of the night view of the thing. it's just so dam beautiful!

The Egyptian museum:

If you want to get some hands on experience with Tutankhamen golden mask, or maybe see a few statues from ancient Egyptian times, then the Egyptian museum is the way to go. It is full of priceless pieces of history that are open to all people.

The museum was first built 1902 and contains over 120,000 items from ancient times. Unfortunately, a few of these items were stolen in the 2011 breakout, but a lot has been recovered since then.

Definitely a good place to check out. I personally never went there before, but I'm planning on visiting there next week!

Siwa Oasis:

Siwa oasis is one of the well know places in Egypt for its lakes medicinal properties as well as the sub-culture there.

Siwa is located near the outskirts of the country close to Alexandria. It has a very unique view that is different from anything you have seen before.

It is well know for its hot weather and for its ancient Egyptian name "Ammonium". I went there with some of my friends before and it was generally a great experience!

The people were very friendly and the locals never shy out to show you around!

Baron palace:

For this one, I don't really have much to say other than it's an AMAZING place to visit. Just look at the picture...

Beautiful huh?!?!

BONUS: Cruise:

Here is the thing, if you go to Egypt and you don't take a cruise, you're really missing out on a big adventure. Cruises in The Nile River are super super fun.

They take you to Luxor and Aswan, show you all over Egypt, and if you pick a five star cruise, are generally really comfy and relaxing.

Please, if you ever visit Egypt. go on a cruise trip or at the very leas, eat on one. There are multiple restaurants that are cruise based here. Surely something worth checking out.

And that's pretty much it. I hope you found this post informative and until next time. Have a good day. :)
