Yashas' Travelogue #7 - World's Longest Bungee Jumping - My Leap of Death Experience (Photos + Video)

in #travel7 years ago

I looked down the 160 meter fall, my heart skipped a beat and I started feeling breathless. I always believed everything in life is based on that extra step we take to explore ourselves. That one step which breaks or makes our inner strengths and abilities, that one step when taken will make us stand out from the crowd, that one step which makes you overcome your fear, that one step which I call Leap of Faith!!!! Video at the end of the post, stay tuned!!

Yes, this is an experience that completely brought out the fear from inside and killed it. I am talking about my bungee jumping experience at The Last Resort, Nepal. Bungee Jumping experience was always a top priority activity from a long time in my MUST DO list. It was rather an unexpected event which later turned out to be the best event of my life.

100Kms from Kathmandu on the beautiful Himalayan mountains through the pristine Himalayan forests, a place called BhoteKosi is the house to World's Longest Bungee Swing. An extended bridge between two huge mountains at a distant sight gives you a hint about what you are going to experience. I was excited and after an eventful ride of 100kms I reached, The Last Resort. Parked my bike and walked across the mountains on the bridge which leads to the heart of the resort.

A detailed briefing is then followed by dividing the crowd into batches based on body weight; once the batches are divided we are taken to the bridge. Wow!!! You literally feel butterflies in your stomach and trust me I was not just scared but was petrified seeing the height. Standing on the bridge, the moment I caught the sight of huge mountains I knew it is never easy to take the Bungee jump. Looking down from the bridge I was sure I won’t even know if I die due to some mishap.

Before I could even convince myself for the jump, the guide started fastening the harness on me, it was my Leap of Faith minutes away moment. It was not the time to panic and worsen the situation, it was the time to jump and prove everything to myself and I did just that. “You are next!!” the call came. From now on there are no second thoughts or looking back on the decision made.

Fully harnessed I went to take my position, I stand on the bridge in the next 2 minutes fully harnessed, one slight look at the depth showed me the roadway to hell, I had to keep my nerves intact. Then I hear the instructor shouting “3….2…….1”, Bungee!!!! I jumped a height of 100m free fall, 160m fall in total. Just 6-7 seconds of time lapse to bring me down straight, pull me back up by the extended elastic bungee and then take me on the circular arc of 240m. You don’t even realize anything before it is done. I was hanging down stretched by the bungee cord and swinging like a pendulum. River just 20-30ft below me gave me the experience of lifetime. I then looked up and felt proud for having conquered the fear and living one of my dreams.

I am not sure hey, I am quite very frightened of heights! I think it'll be a great way for one to over-come that fear.

Exactly no better way than this to overcome your fear of heights... Give it a try.. Life is a great adventure or nothing....Helen Keler

Killing it brother. I could not do that jump... I have decided the things I did in my younger days will stay that way... left for my younger days.

It takes so much nerve just to walk out on those things! I felt like dying when you were first falling. It was beautifully envisioned, your path to life.

Peace,
The Last Sage
