The Lotus Temple also known as the Bahai House of Worship or Bahai Mashriqul-Adhkar Temple is one of the best architectural marvels in the county in modern times.which was completed in 1986. Striking for its flower-like shape, and an unmistakable attraction of the city, it serves as the Mother Temple of the Indian subcontinent and was created to be a place of worship for all faiths and religions. Around the blooming petals there are nine pools of water, which light up, in natural light. It looks spectacular at dusk when it is flood lit. it is set among the lush green landscaped gardens.lotus-temple.jpg

You must be interested why it is named lotus temple. Many of people are saying that this temple looks like a lotus in shape and because of it is known as lotus temple. But this is half-truth. Lotus is a symbol of love and purity. It gives the message of immortality. And because of this bahai temple is designed like a lotus flower and it is known as lotus temple.

()l prayer hall that has a capacity of 2500 people and is about 40m high. The floor inside the central hall is also made of marble. The marble used comes from Greece, from the Penteli Mountain.On an average, 8,000 to 10,000 people visit the Bahai House of Worship each day.Bahai law underlines the all-inclusiveness of all religions. It expresses a belief that a House of Worship should be a social event place for individuals of all religions.

The Bahai House of Worship in Delhi is one of seven such places of worship. The other six are in Sydney in Australia, Panama City in Panama, Apia in Western Samoa, Kampala in Uganda, Frankfurt in Germany and Wilmette in USA. Lotus Temple has won numerous architectural awards and been featured in hundreds of newspaper and magazine articles. A 2001 CNN report referred to it as the most visited building in the world.

Lotus mandir is situated near Nehru Place near Kalkaji and Kalkaji Mandir Metro station is the near metro station. It is just 500 meters away from the mandir.

Timing: 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM (summer) & 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM (winter)

Opening Days: All days of the week except Monday.

Entry Fee: Free.
