V Burger 微風南山店

4/5

Interested in eating Beyond Meat in Taipei? V Burger 微風南山店 specializes in that giving you additional vegetarian options in Taipei.

V Burger 微風南山店 is located on B1 of the Breeze Atré mall in Taipei's Xinyi district. When walking up to V Burger in Taipei, it may look intimidating because the entire menu is displayed in Chinese, but they do have an English menu available (you just have to ask). They primarily serve two things: (1) the Omnipork burger and (2) Beyond Meat Burger in Taipei. As a pretty heavy meat eater, this was an excellent alternative...but wasn't completely satisfying.

V Burger 微風南山店 Review

Bun options at V Burger 微風南山店:

  • Whole wheat
  • Rye
  • Brioche +NT$20

Sauce options at V Burger Taipei:

  • Pineapple Teriyaki
  • Soy milk mayonnaise
  • Thousand Island

V Burger 微風南山店 stands alone as its own small restaurant on the B1 level of the Breeze Atré mall. There are 4 tables and 12 seats. It's an alternative meat company that has two celebrity investors: Bill Gates and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Why do I know that? It says it on the English menu...very awkwardly:
Beyond meat with tasty meat texture and juicy flavor invest by Bill Gates and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Getting Your Taipei Beyond Meat Burger:
Upon selecting your burger, you have your choice of burger bun bread and sauce.

Beyond Meat Burger NT$180 = 8/10

This was my first time trying a Beyond Meat Burger in Taipei and I was pretty satisfied with the results. The burger itself has all the typical ingredients of a burger, but the meat is replaced with a Beyond Meat plant based hamburger patty.

Omni Pork Burger NT$160 = 7/10

It tasted pretty similar to pork. Kind of like the sausage patty would get in a McDonald's sausage McMuffin but less greasy. It was good, but the texture felt a little clumpy so you could taste there was something different.

The scores for both the burgers would be higher, but the burgers are "tall and small." Meaning, for some reason they are made like a big burger, but half the diameter. For the price to size, it's very reasonable considering Beyond Meat is imported.

Lemon Tea NT$50 (NT$25 with burger purchase)

The ice lemon tea was what you'd normally get in Taipei. It's served in a paper cup that uses recycled materials. It's a shame they just don't use real plates and cups for the food.

Fresh Donut NT$38 = 9/10

Dang! This was super good. It's a freshly deep fried crispy donut! I love fresh donuts and this tasty! If you're going to order this and a burger, be sure to order the donut after your meal. Everything is served at the same time and the donut is at maximum tastiness when it's fresh out of the fryer!

Eco Friendly Situation 2/5

The paper cups at V Burger 微風南山店 were super weak. They became very soggy and unreliable during the meal. After 20 minutes if your cup is still full, you would have a hard time to pick it up without collapsing

The burgers were served in paper wrappers which also cause more trash. We ordered 2 burgers for the 2 of us, but it was served on one tray. The problem is that the burgers are very messy to eat. Lettuce and sauce just falling off as you eat it so it's going to be messy.

The burgers should have been served on plates it at least 2 trays. Since it was messy to eat, we had to use a free napkins to clean it up adding to more waste.

I'm being a little critical because they advertise it with a green leaf which indicates eco friendly in most situations. As far as the actual review, I'm not factoring this into the score.

Overall Impression of V Burger 微風南山店

Overall 8/10 (4 stars)
Personally, I am trying to eat less meat even though most meals with meat are delicious. I think that's because there aren't many tasty alternatives...yet! Since more and more options like Beyond Meat in Taipei are springing up, V Burger 微風南山店 has great non-meat alternatives. The price point is pretty reasonable, considering that the price for fake meat in Taipei is still expensive since it has to be imported.

The freshly fried donut was amazing and the burgers are pretty good. As for the experience and sustainability, they have room to improve.

Money In Taiwan

Tax Is Included In The Price

All displayed prices in Taiwan are the actual price. Tax is already included and for large purchases, tourists visiting Taiwan can get a 5% Taiwan VAT refund at the airport Tax Refund counter. Some shops offer this service too, but they will require your passport.

Taiwan Is Cash Only (For Most Small Shops)

The primary payment method for all transactions in Taiwan is cash. It's very rare for small shops to take anything other than cash. It's more common to see places accept the Taipei Metro Card as payment rather a credit card.

Supermarkets and convenience stores in Taiwan (7-Eleven, Family Mart) do not accept credit cards (at least not American credit cards). You can only make purchases by cash or by using your pre-loaded funds on your EasyCard.

Using Credit Cards in Taiwan

If you want to use your credit card in Taiwan, make sure to check if a restaurant in Taiwan accepts credit card in advance. When a place does accept credit card, it will typically be Visa or Mastercard. It's extremely rare for a place to accept Discover and American Express. UberEats, HonestBee, Deliveroo and FoodPanda are Taipei Food Delivery Services where you can order food directly to your airbnb or hotel using a credit card.

Exchanging Money in Taiwan

You can exchange money at the airport or any bank in Taiwan. The rates vary from bank to bank and it can be a hassle to get a good rate. For additional information, check out my Exchanging Money In Taiwan Guide.
