I visited Cambodia on a week tour. Cambodia is traditional with rich culture and advance civilization. But up until 1980's the country was going through tough time with Rouge regime.

I visited one of their monument Choeung Ek, which used to be a killing field of the regime, where thousands of people massacred without hearing their voice to the out side world. A Must visit place to understand how human kind can be cruel, harsh and painful at points and show their animal behaviours to innocent people.

The Killing field of Cambodia where almost 25% per of the population, almost 2.5 million out of the 8 million were silently killed and buried by the Khmer Rouge regime during 1975 to 1979. The Khmer Rouge regime arrested and executed almost everyone suspected of connections with the former government or with foreign governments, as well as professionals and intellectuals

The memorial park at Choeung Ek has been built around the mass graves of many thousands of victims, most of whom were executed right here. There are almost 20,000 mass graves in Cambodia.

Hopefully, one day the international community get in to action and digging the mass graves of Mulliyavakaal and bringing the truth out to the world.

Killing Tree against which executioners beat children to death. They killed children of victims so that they will not revenge when they grown up. The whole families were killed.FB_IMG_1499431531081.jpg

Many dozens of mass graves are visible above ground, many which have not been excavated yet. There are estimated to be 20,000 mass graves in this country.

I like to go visit next year...

You will enjoy it for sure, there are a lot to see..

Thank you for re-steeming the post...appreciated

Great photos. I'm hoping to visit Cambodia next year. It's truly awful what humanity is capable of, I visited Sachsenhausen camp in Germany a few weeks ago and just the general feel of the place was so unbelievably grim, we ended up cutting the visit short. I know a little about the Khmer Rouge but it's amazing how tranquil some of your pics look, to think of the horrors that have gone on there. Thank you for sharing.

Gretat shots and informative
Must have been very emotional visiting there and learning a lot of its sad history

Indeed, it was very emotional and hard to understand why people kill, vipe out their own people for power and ideology.

Yes i know what you mean through my job I have seen to much of this in the world it is very sad

What an incredible piece of history. Your photos are fantastic. It's makes me so sad to look at the tree where children were beaten to death. How awful humans can be to one another. Lets prey we learn from the past and dont repeat this shocking behavior ever again.

I have to ask. Have you visited all of the places you have blogged about? Following. 😉

Yes, i love to travel, that's my passion. One place a year I try to visit, it can be a country or city that i have not been, but the best trip was Cambodia, Vietnam and Malaysia. Amazing vibrant with thousand of years of culture and architecture., which i wish i could go back again when time permit.

Great post!!!

A friend of mine visiting Cambodia in 2008. At the airport, he hired a guy with a scooter and they travelled the country like that for 3 days. The one thing he remembers vividly was a sign that said:

Stay on the path, landmines present

Yes, you are absolutely right. The beauty of this nation and architecture marvel has been destroyed by continuos war in the region, specially during the Vietnam war, the country went through a hell of a time. Remember the bombing campaign by then US president Nixon. Years after the war, still they are clearing the landmines seeded every part of the forest and landscape of the beautiful country.
Very interesting history of Anchor town, will post some photos at later time.

I'll be looking forward to it.
