LibreOffice is an alternative to Microsoft office hence it can be used if the participants don't have Excel as it will still yield the same result.
Since both LibreOffice and Excel support popular formats like xlsx and docx, people can use it as an alternative to Excel which is the best part of it. Also, both are free and can be installed on mobile devices.
