Pancakes Are Cakes Too: Preface

in #steemchurch6 years ago

I wasn't your typical teenager, growing up in a house where the mention of the name of Jesus was considered sacrilegious, I always wanted the Truth, but I didn't know what it was.

My mother encouraged me to be curious about everything except religion, she had me home schooled to avoid any incidents where I'd encounter evangelists or anyone else affiliated with a "god"... I was dwelling in my ignorance, till I met Joseph.

Proverbs 3:5-6, those were his first words to me. The beautiful little boy whose hair was just beginning to fall because of the strain from chemotherapy. Joseph's parents were Nigerian, just like my mum, but like me, he had never seen the shores of his country before.

Now, let me not digress too much...

Anyway, he told me that, he wasn't sick, he was just undergoing a change and everything would be okay. Because he was a child of merely 6 years old, I assumed it was optimism and not faith.

Little did I know that Joseph's story would be the total turnaround my life had always lacked.

At 18, I helped out as a volunteer at the cancer clinic just to make my resumé look better, but Joseph made me realize there was more to life than white collar jobs and becoming a doctor.

I Adesola Carter, am about to tell you how an atheist found God.
