Overcoming your thought

in #steemchurch7 years ago

Hi friends, today I sat down and asked myself why do people fall into sin easily these days? Then I realized that the inability for us to control our thought, has led us to various sin in which we find ourselves in.

Proverbs 4:23

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

Having control over your thought is essential. This Bible verse is showing to us how we can keep the heart clean from all evil thought that we can ever think of. Because the human heart, is the wellspring of life.

Difference between being tempted and sinning

We ought to know that there’s a difference between when we’re tempted,(the thought entering into the mind) and when we sin(living upon an evil thought and wallowing in it). It is necessary that we know how to control our thinking and thoughts that goes through our mind.
When a thought comes into our mind, what we do is to examine it based on God's Word and also, decides if we should continue down the lane, or If we should reject the thought and replace it with another thought. We don’t need to allow any habit to develop a thought in our heart, or else it becomes difficult to get rid of.

Here are some suggestions for having control of our thoughts and getting rid of negative or wrong thoughts too:

  • (1) Be in God’s word

Now, why is it necessary to be in God’s word and what does it mean?
When ever there’s a temptation(sinful thought) our mind, it’s the word of God that we’ve yield our life to, that will help us through this. In other words, we will be able to recognize it for what it is and know what action to take.
In Matthew 4, when Christ was tempted by the devil, he actually did not argue with the devil. But rather, all he kept saying was that it is written. This is a great example I want us all to follow by getting familiar with the word of God.

  • (2) Live in dependence upon the Holy Spirit

What this is trying to tell us is that if we rely on our strength only, we’ll definitely fall. We are to contact him chiefly through prayers seeking His strength.

Matthew 26:41

Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Proverbs 26:28

  • (3) Pursue hard after God

I don’t need to talk much on this aspect. But one thing you must know is that God is not a man and won’t keep pressuring you to come to him. He’s at the door knocking, when you’re willing to accept him then you’ll come to him. You have to strive after God because he’s your maker.
We are to replaced the worldly thought by Godly pursue.

Matthew 5:44

But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

With this little idea, I believe you all must have learnt somethings that were a bit hidden from you. Stay bless and have a wonderful day.

I have to agree with you, it is vital that are able to control our thoughts. When we are able to control our thoughts, we will not be easily led astray by wrong thoughts. In difficult situations, let's strive to have the thought of God. We can ask ourselves what will Jesus do if he was in our situation. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for your contribution.

We need to be able to distinguish sinful thoughts from good thoughts. Sinful thoughts can then be overcomed.

Controlling our thoughts will not be so dofficult if we focused our mind and heart on God and his words, prayers too, asking God for help.

Yes our thought and everything we think is a very powerful weapon that can really shape in our actions, Paul apostles spoke about this.
As Christians we must endeavor to keep our thoughts in check so that we may not sin against God.

One of the greatest forms of self control is the control of our thoughts. Once we can control what we think of then, we can be able to overcome what we know brings about shortcomings.

As you understand what Christ has done for you, remove hidden provisions for defeat, live in the fear of the Lord, become mighty in Spirit, and use temptations as signals to seek God, you will conquer impure thoughts. And as you win the battle over impure thoughts, impure habits will be purged from your life.

Our thoughts are very powerful. So we should always think right. So as not to go astray.
