With all the resources that Solomon had at his disposal, he found that life was monotonous. For him there was a certain similarity, a certain uniformity or lack of variety in everything he observed. People are today in a constant movement to search for new forms of pleasure, satisfaction, trying to get away from the lack of variety imposed by natural laws. And that is what this book of Ecclesiastes will present to us throughout this study.

So we see here some remarkable statements that reveal to us that Solomon made a study of the laws of nature and had a great knowledge about them. It is interesting that these laws are basic in our time as far as science is concerned.

Three very interesting statements.

1.First, "The sun rises and the sun sets". There is a monotony in nature, but we also have what we can depend on. You can depend on the sun, it will come out, undoubtedly; and you can count on that the sun will set, without questioning it. We still use that terminology today, although we know that going out and putting is caused by the rotation of the earth. We are resting on a piece of solid earth, and it seems to us that the sun rises and that it also descends. These terms have been adapted to human language in all the centuries. The really surprising thing is the regular way in which the sun appears and disappears, obeying certain laws.

2.In the second place we are told: "The wind blows south, then turns north." Today we know that the wind follows certain rules. Even with the most advanced gadgets, it is sometimes difficult to predict the weather accurately. Remember that the Lord Jesus Christ said, in John 3: 8, "8The wind blows where it wants, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it is going." During certain times of the year, hurricanes and tornadoes form in different parts of the world. And they often punish populated areas. In many places there are terrible floods that kill thousands of people. As Solomon said, in some places the wind goes south and in others, it turns north. When blowing, the wind obeys certain laws. Now, how did Solomon know? He did not have the devices that we have today and the background on which to base his conclusions.

3.Third, Solomon also said: "All the rivers go to the sea, but the sea is not filled." Solomon was talking tacitly about the law of evaporation, of the elevation of moisture into the air. Then the wind arrives, and pushes the moisture towards the earth. And so, the whole process follows certain determined and specific laws. Nothing that happens is left to chance, although sometimes it seems to us.

So if we add to these 3 statements, that of verse 4, and so we have four remarkable statements about the laws of nature, that make sense, and agree with what human beings know today. Compare these affirmations of Ecclesiastes with other writings of the year one thousand before Christ; in them you will find many false and superstitious conclusions, which contrast with the accuracy we find in the Word of God.
