First Flight with the Mavic Air Was a Success!

in #steem7 years ago

Hey Everyone! My first flight with the DJI Mavic Air was (kind of) a success! Everything went really well and exactly as I expected, except for the fact that the drone didn't record video for most of the flight time. I didn't realize that switching between photo mode and video mode can turn the filming off, so I ended up with a lot of pictures and not a whole lot of video.

The pictures and the little bit of video that I got turned out really well! Here's a few of the pics I took today as I was testing out the drone. I decided to just take the drone to a local park with a lot of open space before trying to fly it over the Brunner project or the Kingsford project. With this huge open space, I was able to get a really good feel for the way the drone moves and how to position the gimbal and camera to get great shots. I may need to get a filter for the lens, if you know anything about polar lenses for drones, let me know in the comments!

Tomorrow I'm planning on taking it by Brunner and Kingsford, stay tuned!

P.S. These pictures are straight from the drone, I didn't edit the lighting, but it's amazing that without any editing, you can end up with such beautiful images!

That’s really cool. Are you going to photograph some of your projects soon?

Thanks @cookit! Yes, I'm planning on taking a few shots of the Kingsford project tomorrow!

Hows your project coming along? Did I miss a photo post?

That was some wise idea to start it with an open space so you won't have what we called: 'story for the gods'. Hahahahaha, that simply means you avoided some unpleasant stories.

The photos are really great to me considering the height which you took them. I zoomed in and out to have a feel of the picture quality and it looks great.

But one great problem you may encounter in not so open space will be balancing between looking at the control screen for pictures like you are doing here

And actually looking up at the drone for dangers like building, trees and the rest. Else you may crash it into a tree. Just my thought though, but I hope you get my point.

Hahahaha I'm very glad I decided to head to an open space @lordjames! Yeah that's very true, luckily the DJI controllers hooks up to my phone. It lets me see through the camera on the drone and it also has proximity alerts when you get near something. It is hard to spot the little guy when it gets up in the air as well! There's also a satellite map that shows trees and most obstacles as well.

Proximity alerts and Google mapping system, it's like the development crew had thought out everything. Alright then, let's have some fun.

They really did think of everything, the whole drone is just designed with amazing functionality and hardware, I couldn’t imagine it being any better than this! I’m still brainstorming some more ideas for what I can capture with this thing!

I tried flying a drone once...didn't go so well. Glad your attempt went better :).

Haha I know the feeling! Thanks! Video is coming soon!

Damn I want one of those so bad. Initially because they are such a neat toy but there are so many applications I could use it for.

I was hoping you would go through with it as the pics and stories are great enough, but the immersion from video and perspective will be great.

Congrats on the new toy bud. Can't wait to see the videos. Dtube!

Hey @zekepickleman! I got it for that same reason - it's a really fun toy, but also really applicable to a lot of projects!

I'm working on video and am really excited about the new D.tube update! HD videos are finally here! I've been trying to upload a video but for some reason, it's not accepting the upload.. Every time I attempt an upload it says please upload a video even though I've already uploaded it and waited. Not sure what the problem is but hopefully I can solve it tonight!

I had that happen last night.

Must be really nice to fly a drone , would really love to do someday till then will keep admiring pictures and videos from people like you who are already living their dreams of flying drones

Haha, it is amazing to fly this drone! It's a really free feeling to see the video from 400 feet in the air!! Hopefully you can try one out for yourself soon and feel it!

Nice pictures @khaleelkazi at least you didn't crash the drone :P
No question of the day though?

Thanks @teutonium, I'm glad I didn't crash it!!! Sadly no QOTD on this post, I kinda went for that more "photographer" style post. I'm hoping to include some of these types of short posts in with my regular style of writing - which I also have been falling behind on!

which I also have been falling behind on!

Yes you have! I hope you are selling your upvotes when your VP gets to full! You don't want to lose that potential money down the drain
BTW have you checked this new thing called steembasicincome?? Someone sent me 1 share and it's pretty cool you should check it out.

I agree, it's horrible to lose the potential! And no, I haven't heard of that, I'll look it up right now!

it's done in minnowbooster - you go to my account - edit info - sell upvote and you can put the scroller at the amount you want to seel you upvote, for example i have mine for when my VP goes higher than 95%

So cool! Congratulatiio ns

Thanks! I'm trying to upload a video to dtube as we speak!

I do not know about polar lenses for drones, but I love how they work. The images are incredible. I'll be on the lookout for the next ones.

I'm not too well versed in lenses either, but figured I'd ask! This drone has blown my mind with how easy it is to fly and the high-quality photos and videos it can take!

your article was very good, congratulations and a beautiful photo.

Thank you @biolegria! It's my first ever drone picture, hopefully they'll get even better as I practice more!

nice story & awesome photograpy. thanks for sharing your parsonal story.keep it up @ khaleel kazi

Thanks for reading @akashdas11! What else do you think I should film out there?
