What are we really eating? The excessive use of agro-chemicals in consumer products

in #science7 years ago

Hello friends of steemit, today I want to tell you about something I know a little since I made a thesis that touched on the subject in a certain way, and it is the use of chemical, agro-chemical or synthetic products in the plantations of vegetables, fruits and any Consumable product.

(Taking samples to analyze the soil)
It turns out that nowadays the use of chemical substances is of vital importance in the production of food and the generation of quality products, as well as being a way to ensure that the loss of them decreases due to the protection that these products provide. in this case to the vegetable or product. However the excessive use and in large quantities without pre-established amounts is what makes what we eat is poison, paying little attention to what we are really introducing to our body.

In the market there are thousands of chemical substances, it is estimated that there may be around 5000 chemical products in the world, and many of these do not have the minimum requirements of application and security, in addition to many times people who are in the market. field and carry out these activities believe that the more product they use will be more beneficial for their plantation, and what they do not know is that besides they can burn the plants by the excessive use of chemical substances, they are sending to cities products loaded with high toxicity.

(Measuring apparent density of the soil)
When I did my research I had the opportunity to speak with producers, who assure that in our country: Venezuela does not handle standards to apply these chemicals, besides many times due to the lack of these products separately, mixtures of several without even knowing the power they have to contaminate not only the product but also the soil where the crops are grown, leaving infertile many meters of layers of soil.

"We are working with the nails, Mr. Isidro said, owner of a small plot outside the city of San Cristóbal, Táchira state" Mr. Isidro says that he uses a glass jar to add chemicals to their crops, that is, it does not have a standard measure of what it is applying.

(Speaking a little with Mr. Isidro, producer)

What is it that we are actually consuming?

Today there are thousands of chemical products as I said, and all have or fulfill different functions, that is, not only apply products to add requirements to plants or crops, but we are also talking about Herbicides, pesticides, fungicides and a great range and variety of chemicals, then do we really eat fruits and vegetables as they have taught us is it so healthy?

Many of these products are loaded with all these products, intense days of application make the product look "nice" but do we really know that we are taking it to the mouth?

What collateral effects does these products bring?

The consumption of moderate doses of pesticides with certain constancy, can lead to a series of diseases such as the alteration of the nervous system, decreased immune system and in the worst case with a long exposure can cause cancer.

What does each product depend on to produce a side effect?

This depends on numerous factors such as: type of agro-chemical called pesticide, fertilizer, fungicide, herbicide, etc., toxicity and quantity or dose of exposure.

Who is more affected by this use of agro-chemicals?

In addition to the consumer, the person directly affected is the producer and the people who live near these places where agricultural activities are carried out, in fact worries have arisen due to the influence that these pesticides may have on the immune system or endocrine function. Women who are in prenatal stages and are close to these areas can have a number of complications in the fetus of the baby, such as malformations and even spontaneous abortions, in addition to many diseases due to the handling of these chemicals such as:

  • Chronic kidney diseases
  • Colitis
  • Depression
  • Diabetes
  • Heart diseases
  • Hiportiroidismo
  • Porous bowel syndrome
  • Hepatic diseases
  • Lou Gehring's disease
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Non-Hodgkin lymphoma
  • Parkison
  • Obesity
  • Reproductive problems
  • Reproductive diseases
  • Cancer

What can be done to reduce the use of agro-chemicals?

The answer is simple: To resort to more environmentally friendly techniques to reduce the use of synthetic substances: As a result of agricultural modernization, a large part of the ecological principles under which agro-systems should be established have been shattered. which now and for some decades now has emerged the need to implement management practices focused on the development of eco-logically balanced and sustainable systems, which allow promoting the protection of each environmental factor involved in agro-productive processes and giving a improves quality of life for both the producer and the consumer, thus reducing the use of agro-chemicals, as cultural techniques are carried out that allows crops to be sustainable through the use of organic amendments, traps to ward off insects and animals that can damage crops, and a set of techniques already proven and capable of making a gro-sistema común, a sustainable agro-system and ecologist.

I think it is vital to be clear and be aware of what we are consuming, this is why organic products are often a bit more expensive, because their production requires more work, but in the long run it is more beneficial because we are moving away from our organism a huge load of chemicals that are very harmful to our body.
