A. What is personality?

In learning the psychology of personality of course you also have to know the meaning of personality itself.

The meaning is sometimes still ambiguous in the minds of the people. There are some words that are still made in synonym of personality. Though their meaning is different from each other. for example,

  • Character
Character is different from personality. Though Character is more a description of behavior that can be in good value bad, right wrong.

  • Disposition
Disposition is a subtle character of a person. That has been in the old and not changeable. For example, the character of the child is angry

  • Traits
Traits is a response that we give to an event or circumstances that befall us. The exact occurrence and the same response mean it signifies our nature. For example, the person's juice is easily offended.

  • Habit
Habit is an action that we do repeatedly from the same stimulant. Example Tono is always late for 5 minutes during
    school.

Some examples of personality definitions:

Personality is:

  • Value as a social stimulus, impressive self-displaying ability (Hilgard & Marquis)

  • The life of a person as a whole, individual, unique, effort to achieve goals, ability to survive and open up, ability to gain experience (Stern)

  • A dynamic organization in a psychophysiologic system that determines its unique model of adjustment to its environment (Allport)

  • The unique trait-trait pattern of a person (Guilford)

  • All the characteristics of a person or the general nature of many people that result in a settled pattern in response to a situation (Pervin).

  • A set of stable traits and trends, which determine the long-term gametes and differences in psychological behavior (thinking, feeling, and movement) of a person and can not be understood simply as a result of the social pressures and biological pressures of the moment (Mandy or Burt)

  • Organizations that organize organs, which from birth to death never cease to be involved in the conversion of functional activities (Murray)

  • Typical patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behavior that distinguish one person from another and do not change across time and situation (Phares)

At least in learning the psychology of personality you know the picture of the meaning of the personality itself.

B. Types of Human Personality

Actually, many theories about the kinds of human personality. If you are really enthusiastic about learning personality psychology you can read in psychology books.

However, we do not really need to memorize all of them. Because basically every scientist announces his theory based on observation. Which means if you often observe a person most likely your subconscious mind will be able to group personality types.

What most scientists do is just naming the problem.

Carl jung with 3 personality.

Car Jung is a well-known psychologist from swiss. He then distinguishes the human personality into introverts, extroverts and ambiverts.

You are certainly familiar with the types of personality that Carl Jung mentioned. Here's the big picture,

Introvert is a personality that we often refer to as people who are quiet, closed, less social skills and the like.

While Ekstrovert is the opposite of introvert. He is a people with high social skills, easy to mingle and open.

Of course both have their respective advantages, of course you can read the mind of an introvert if he was invited to a crowded place to bersosial. and the exact opposite of course you will know when an extrovert is bored with a so-so activity. And many others.

While Ambivert is the midline of the two of them. He can be an introvert and also quite an expert to be an extrovert.

Of course both have their respective advantages, of course you can read the mind of an introvert if he was invited to a crowded place to bersosial. and the opposite of course you will know when an extrovert is bored with the activity that so-so alone. And many others.

While Ambivert is the midline of the two of them. He can be an introvert and also quite an expert to be an extrovert.

Hippocrates with his four personality theories.

Hippocrates was a distinguished philosopher from greece. He argues that humans have 4 types of personality. That is sanguin, koleris, melancholy, and plegmatis.

Sanguinis, more like extroverts. She is friendly, always passionate, loves to talk and looks prominently in a group although not a leader type, her mind is also often changing.

The colonialists are more stubborn, optimistic, playful and passionate but emotionally charged.

Melancholy is more sensitive, but also analysts, vindictive and easier to see the negative side, like to mingle and do not like to be a concern. But most of them are great businessmen.

Plegmatis is a patient person, likes to find the fastest, orderly solution, his sense of humor is more sarcastic, and easy to get along, do not like new things, more audiences.

I think the types expressed by Hippocrates are still many that seem ambiguous and rather difficult at differentiating from one another. However, it still looks characteristic of each personality.

C. 16 Kinds of Human Personality

This personality was revealed by Isabel Briggs Myers, who later developed a psychotest for the 16 personality types. The test is called MBTI (Myers-Birggs Type Indicator). This psychological test works by looking at how humans determine their decisions and how they perceive the world.

Psychotes are designed 1940, this test is enabled to measure intelligence, talent, and personality type person. Yan essentially our goal of learning this is to find out the 16 personality types according to Briggs Myers this.

Because too much, it would be nice if we learn just the core of the 16th. This is certainly also good for you who learn personality psychology, so not only textbook but also train the subconscious understanding.

16 it can be from a combination of 4 dimensions, each dimension has two possibilities as follows:

  • Concentration Concentration
In this dimension there are two possibilities of Introvert (I) or Extrovert (E).

  • Understanding Information
In understanding information from outside human beings have two properties, namely to understand with information received and in reason with the mind. Like a sensor on a robot. Sensing (S).

Or he put forward the feeling, intuition. Intuition (N).

  • Conclude and Decide
In making a decision or concluding something someone can more often use the mind. Thingking (T).

Or more often make decisions based on feelings. Feeling (F).

  • Lifestyle
The pattern of living human habits can be organized and planned. Judging (J)

Or more open and accept the possibilities that will happen. Percieving (P)

Well you can combine every possible occurrence of the four dimensions. I prefer to observe rather than give a written test to determine one's personality type.

conclusion

let our mind's intuition work if we find someone similar. Use it as your advantage to know it.
You can even guess the nature. Up to you.

Psychology has been a cool topic for me and it is interesting to get to know and understand the different personalities of other people. And how there are debates of authors about the types and how they can be identified.
