xiii days of poems // DAY 4 // gorged

in #poetry7 years ago (edited)

This poem, gorged, was written while I gazed out across the vast stretch of the Columbia River and contemplated it's origin. The river begins in Canada and flows out to the pacific ocean, rendering country borders and state lines arbitrary. The Columbia River Gorge is one of the most sacred and beautiful places I've had the privilege to behold. Born out of continuous "catastrophes" at the end of the last ice age, the Columbia Gorge offers a sanctuary for creation. The river invites you to cultivate your curiosities and revel is the great mysteries of life.

Hope you enjoy <3

a catastrophe - a matter of perspective
an apostrophe can mark possession
let go of old obsessions

learning just to be
creatrice of my own happiness
soon to be dirt once more

so for now i carry it beneath my fingernails
that stretch towards the Columbia river gorge
gorged out of a mountain side

a calamitous landslide
the deluge divulged this gorgeous place
catastrophic destruction - an act of creation
