THE PHENOMENAL WOMAN

Born of a woman
Nurtured by the society
And all life has to offer
With or without a father
We strive for success
Until we progress
Phenomenal women
Born of a woman

Back in the 70s
We were rejected for so many things
Ripped off of our rights
The weaker vessels
Made to work mostly at nights
To them, we were as useless as expired goods
But we were born in the hood
They thought
No advice was needed to be sought
Phenomenal women
Born of a woman

We were born in pain
Majority die in pain
Our fears we face
With tears and disgrace
What’s the secret? We were always asked
Not knowing we were pain sacked
But we say,
In the cry of child birth,
The bites of breastfeeding,
The nurturing of we
Phenomenal women,
Born of a woman.

Neglected and rejected
By the ones our heart abducted
By the ones we bore
Even with sores
By the mouth of men
That will still say,
What’s the mystery behind your beauty?
All we do is laugh and respond,
In the pain of love
The cry of birth pain
The cry of our time of the month
The cry of heart breaks
Phenomenal women
Born of a woman

Under the sun, we shout
Under the rain, we toil
For our daily bread we struggle
Insulted and humiliated
We still shout, war a oja
Fighting our fellows
In order to put food on the table
But in our wrinkled faces,
Our pain and beauty is,
In the pain of our voice,
In the swear that we make
In the fight that we entangle in
The strength in our weakness..
Phenomenal women
Born of a woman

We hide our flaws with pride
And later at night, we die in our cries
Undisputedly, we must survive
To reach a desired state and sublime
The marks on our hips
The pain of our waist
The endurance of our pain
Is where our beauty lies
Phenomenal women
Born of a woman

We are not adored or cherished by men
Men that we bore out of pain
Kudos to those that died
Leaving us our leaders of tomorrow
Exaltation, should be ours
Celebrating the women in us
Phenomenal women
Born of a woman

We worth more than what we behold
Unlike tales of old
That are only told
Just to the unknown
Our value worth more than bags of gold
And so, we should not be sold
Phenomenal women,
Born of a woman

Sort:

These lines got me

We worth more than what we behold
Just to the unknown
Our value worth more than bags of gold
And so, we should not be sold

I must confess, the weight of your poem can sink the Titanic. Naked truth compress in a poem. The emotions in this piece is so deep and real.
Yeah
Truly You are a phenomenal woman born of a powerful woman!!

Awwn.. thanks dearie

Supremely powerful - unafraid of naming the injustices of the world behind us, and the one that still haunts us today. This phrasing stuck out to me:

In the cry of child birth,
The bites of breastfeeding,
The nurturing of we
Phenomenal women,
Born of a woman.

The full circle, tragic but beautiful, is made real.

Awwwn....
Am touched..

This is beautiful!

Thanks dearie

This was well written and the themes were superb.
I loved the image of 'dying in their cries.' I could feel the pain hidden behind the smile, the mystery behind the beauty and the strength hidden in the suffering.

Good one.

This is a great piece.. the phenomenal women is priceless.

LOL...thanks dearie

The beauty and pain of a woman, beautifully and carefully written in this wonderful piece. Well done. The part where the man they bore in pain, who failed to still appreciate their worth, got me. Well done. This is indeed, a phenomenal piece.

First of all, beautiful couplet.

Secondly, your poetry promotes the fragile strength of womanhood. And this I like.
Not that you just strengthened the female folk but because you, on behalf of all the women all over the world, admitted to your weaknesses and even more so, brought out the strength hidden in the fold of these weaknesses to the witnesses reading this poem.

Look, I tell you, this poem is bae. I read it and I imagined you on stage performing it.

Ever heard of spoken words? Jeez! I'm talking too much.
This is a very good poem.

From yours truly,
@godwine
