Ledenika cave in Bulgaria

Ledenika Cave is located 16 km away from the town called Vratsa,Bulgaria , on the territory of Vrachanski Balkan Nature Park , situated at 830 m above sea level in the northwestern part of the Vrachanski Mountains .
The cave is named Ledenika because of the icy stalagmites , stalactites and stalactites , which are formed in it in the winter near the entrance .

The entrance of the cave is located at the lowest part of the Ledenik lag at an altitude of 830 meters . The temperature varies from -7 ° C to 15 ° C in the antechamber and up to 8 ° C in the interior . Humidity is 92% . There are many galleries and interesting karst forms - stalactites , stalagmites and stalactites formed for thousands of years . It is about 320 m long and has ten halls . The first hall is the "Anteroom" (the lowest part of the cave) in which a huge ice column with a diameter of nearly 21 meters rises .

In the winter and spring in this room are formed ice formations (stalactites, stalagmites, stalactones), from where comes the name of the cave . There are a few meters below which a man should move low-leaning - the "Slide" passage. Through it it reaches the "Little Hall", which is almost round. After another narrowing , the Komata Cave Corridor is reached by the Great (Concert Hall) , which is very rich in formations.

Some of them are called by different names because of their interesting form - Crocodile, Glory's Head, Sokol, Santa Claus, Grandma Jaga's House and many others. Below the "Concert Hall" is another one - "The Fridge". In the past, people used it to store mushroom seed. Turning to the right of the Concert Hall, there is a small, sinking lake of 0.50 m depth, which has a legend that his water is "magical" and fulfills the desire of everyone who sinks his hand into it .
From the Great Hall of Iron Bridges , it passes through the Little and Big Gap, through the Zavesky passage, to the so-called " "White Hall" . Here you can see the Mother Tongue, the Giant's Woman , the Elephant , the Bathers . The highest point of the cave is called the Seventh Heaven .***

They say that the best time for trip to the cave is in the summer or in the winter . Also there is a rumor that says that the Shepherds have used it to keep sheep's milk inside so it was able to last a bit longer :)

Here is a map of the cave :

And finally a Bulgarian flag so you will know where this cave is:)
