My Go-to Korean Restaurant in Cebu

One that stands out for its simplicity

When it comes to Korean food, there's definitely no shortage of places to choose from in Cebu. There are LOADS of Korean restaurants with plenty of new ones popping up everywhere.

But whenever I get the cravings for that juicy barbecue or that spicy hot kimchi soup, the first place that always comes to mind is Pearl Korean Meatshop and Restuarant in Country Mall, Banilad. It's simple, cheap and cheerful.

On a quiet Monday evening

After just recovering from a bad cough, my immune system felt depleted and although I was well rested, my body felt tired and lethargic. And from past experience, nothing provides a better "pick me up" than spicy kimchi soup along with generous amounts of real protein.

I don't know what it is in kimchi that gives me a sudden boost of energy. It may be the healthy bacteria found in the fermented cabbage or the mix of garlic, spring onions and chili peppers that assist in revitalizing the body. Whatever it is, it has never failed to deliver.

So a friend and I decided to pay this place a visit to get our quick spice fix. Keeping it simple, we chose two servings of Beef - Short Plate (the non marinated variety which I think is referred to as cha-dol or chadolbaegi) with a side of Kimbap. Our order came with the usual side dishes (Banchan) of salads and a small serving of kimchi stew. This could have easily satisfied three people comfortably.

The food arrived in no time because it was early Monday evening which meant we had the attention of all six wait staff to ourselves and just a few others.

Now for my little rant hahaha!... This place is usually packed, with all staff busy... leaving some sensitive diners quick to judge on the service when they are not attended to IMMEDIATELY. The same diners then take the extra effort to leave bad reviews on various social media and food review sites. I understand that some are warranted complaints but most are just silly and unjustified. I find this so amusing. We all need to learn to chill, relax and stop feeling entitled... its just food. Now ENJOY :)

The combination of fatty proteins, salads and spices totally hit the spot. After our meal, I sat there sweaty faced, staring blankly into space in the direction towards the now empty grill plate, thoroughly content with what I was contemplating to be my most satisfying meal for the week!

NO I'm not sponsored by this place, although I wish I was. LOL. I just genuinely think they've found the right combination with regards to value and dining experience. If you haven't already, I encourage you to try it when you're in the area. I'm certain you won't be disappointed. Leave me a comment below and share your experience :)
