Topic: SUBJECTION TO AUTHORITY

Romans 13:1-7 NKJV

Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil. Therefore you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience’ sake. For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God’s ministers attending continually to this very thing. Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.

The Kingdom that God operates is characterized by orderliness, and so are God’s Kingdom known for orderliness. The distinctives of every people and place of order are authority and submission.
God requires as to be subject to the governing authority in every place. It is God who instituted the governing authority in every place; whether it is good or bad, righteous or evil, godly or ungodly. None of these authorities were set up without God’s approval. They have the mandate of God to operate and are used of Him to execute His will. There is a governing authority in the home, in every family, in Christian assemblies, in market places, in schools, in communities, in states and countries. Every man who is in any of these places should be subject to authority.
Every human authority represents God and acts on God’s behalf. Authority can be used of God to execute His will, to judge, punish, reward, praise and do as He wishes. All said no authority should cause us to disobey God’s commandments. Jesus and His disciples never disobeyed any authority for personal reasons. When they did it was in order to allow them obey and give higher loyalty to God (Act 4:18-20). The role of every child of God is to first submit himself to the governing authority. Secondly, pray for all in authority (I Tim 2:1-2) and be committed to doing good, having fear of any authority (whether evil or not).
