CERRO EL EMPALAO. One of the best experiences in my opinion, to be on top and feel its splendor when observing the reservoir of zuata and the city of cagua at dawn ..... it is rumored in the area that the Indians of the tribe menegoto in spirit are still the guadianes of the hill, El Cerro El Empalao is a hill of about 705 m altitude located east of the city of Cagua, Aragua state. The Empalao is a place appreciated by joggers, athletes and the general population of the region in search of physical activity. From the top you can take roads that lead to Zuata and San Mateo, capital of the Bolivar municipality of Aragua state. From it you can see the three lakes of the region: Lake Tacariguas, Taiguaiguai Lagoon and La Laguna de Zuata

The Empalao takes its name from the history of Venezuela, when the encomendero Garci González de Silva dedicated himself to "impaling" the aborigines who offered resistance to his attempts to enslave them. The cruel practice of impaling consisted of traversing a person lengthwise with a stake previously stuck in the ground with the tip up, in the same way that it is done with an animal to roast it. González de Silva met strong resistance from the Meregotos Indians and those whom he finally captured killed them crossing a log on farms on the hill that at that time was nicknamed El Calvario
