The Myanmar's "teak" for ship construction and other used in the late 18^th centuries and early 19^th centuries "konbaing dynasty". At this time, the teak forest was felling by using girdling system. image

Burmese ( Myanmar) was annexed into the British Empire as a province of India in three wars from 1824 to 1885. In particular, the rich teak forest was a significant factor in Britain's decision to progressively assimilate Burma (Myanmar) into the empire. At the end of the second Anglo-Burmese war, the British colony annexation of the remainder of lower Pegu Roma ( Taungngu, Thatyet, Minhla, Thaton, Mawlamyaing etc.....) area. These areas were produced teak log by foreign companies. These companies were TD finn lay, fullkar, steel-brother and Magayeekar. image

In 1885, the Burma (Myanmar) royal council fined the British Bombay-Burma corporation 2.3 million rupees for fraudulently withholding royalties on exported timber. This is the one cause of third Anglo-Burmese war. In 1942-1945, the Nipon -Burma -Timber company was logging during the second world war. And then, after the independence of 1948, starting extraction department has been established. Namely Teak Consortium, Timber Project Board TPB, STEO, STB, TC and to date Myanmar Timber Enterprise (MTE) is the only organization that can extract timber out of the forests in Myanmar.
