Varta, the German company specializing in the production of batteries for large storage systems of solar energy, intends to switch to mass production of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles. In order to compete successfully in this sector in the Asian market, Varta began to cooperate with the Fraunhofer Research Institute. Germany has a government program of 1 billion euros aimed at supporting domestic companies planning to produce batteries for electric vehicles. The second objective of this program is to protect jobs in connection with the transition from the production of internal combustion engines. Varta is currently the only mass producer of batteries in Germany.
