Did You Ever See a Real life Mermaid?

Have you ever dreamt of hanging out with Barbie or Ariel?

May be in your weirdest dreams you would want to become Snow White. You might as well have become the long-haired Rapunzel. Your prince charming would certainly rescue you!

These larger than life characters on TV could take you to one of the fantasy lands in the Walt Disney productions. Disney characters have always been a huge rage among young and old alike. Some fans have turned their love for these characters into careers.

The best example is the 19-year- old Emily Keat from Cornwal, UK. She is a professional mermaid. Emily built her own six-foot tail out of old lycra swimming costumes. The glittery blue and green outfit looks like the one worn by Ariel in Disney’s “The Little Mermaid”.

Ariel has a long, flowing, bright red hair, blue eyes, green mermaid tail and purple seashell bikini top. Emily dyed her hair red to complete her ‘fishy look’.

“I absolutely love being a mermaid - I couldn't imagine doing anything else," says Emily. "I have always been interested in mythical creatures.”

After making her tail, sealed with silicone bonding to keep out the water, Emily spent time, training herself for four hours a day. She learnt how to swim with the extra weight. She also worked on perfecting her diving techniques and holding her breath under water.

As a young girl, Emily wanted to become a fairy. But she didn’t pursue it for being too unpractical a dream. Then she made lifelike wings to fly but failed to soar up in the skies.

Now Emily wants to use her unique career to promote environmental causes like keeping the seas clean and safe for marine animals. Also, she is involved in the promotion of beaches.

Emily lives on both modeling and appearing at children's parties and special events. She owes her new avatar to her inspiration Mermaid Melissa. This US aquatic star could glide through the water, thanks to her £3,500 tail.
