When is it ok for a man to cry in public?

Men cry in private. When can a man share his pain and it be therapeutic to him versus it making him just look weak?

Men bottle up their shortcomings and pain regularly due to feeling being honest about their feelings and struggle will do them little good and just waste their time looking weak; there's even a formal practice and philosophy of bottling up feelings and pain known as Stoicism.

Stoicism to me is a technique, not a lifestyle. Would it be ok to go through with life and never cry? Could it be superior? Nikola Tesla never had sex and is one of the most positively influential men to have ever lived. Or is it ok for a man to cry and show vulnerability to others? And if so, when?

In one of the most memorable moments of my life I found myself crying uncontrollably 1.5 miles from my apartment when I got the news my Mom had ovarian cancer. I walked all the way home through the heart of Seattle sobbing. While this was devastating news, I hope that when we are older, men in the world will allow themselves to be more emotionally vulnerable, and shedding tears is one of the most powerful ways to be vulnerable.
