The Abusive Relationship

in #love7 years ago (edited)

I feel a big problem with today's society is that we tend to find a sense of peace in comfortability. No, I'm not talking about the sense of comfort you feel when you lay in your bed after a 14 hour day, or the way you feel when you put on your favourite outfit or eat your favourite meal. I'm referring to the feeling you get when your favourite person wraps their arms around you, you know? Like it doesn't matter what they've done or how bad they hurt you, you still feel at home in their embrace. You hate it, but you can't get enough... like a bad pill that slowly consumes your being, and not one person understands your addiction but you.

Perhaps that is why relationships have become so toxic and monogamy is dead. Perhaps that is why bruised arms are so easily explained with "well, I shouldn't have done this.." or "well, I shouldn't have done that". You see... trust is foreign and lies have become a second nature. We want to walk away, but walking away means starting over - and isn't it sad that we dread a new beginning more than we dread a bloodied fist? We have convinced ourselves that a house does not lose it's value as a home, just because it has a few broken windows, as long as there's still a roof over our heads. Happiness is no longer defined by it's true definition, but rather, a drove of memories set aside in our minds that we refer back to when calamity strikes. We hold on to nothing more than "maybe we will get back there someday". ... as we sit and continue to wither away into a fragile shell of our former self we grow to hate more and more each day.

I hope we all never lose the sight of the importance of love, the right kind. The one that doesn't hurt.

It is never okay to be abused! And, it's a bad thing not to speak up! Really love can never hurt and make you feel pain.

Thank you for sharing

Being in an abusive relationship with someone who claims to love you is one of the most harrowing, mind-bending experiences anyone can go through. I'm in awe of the bravery of all the people who have come to speak out
