Jio has reportedly started delivery of the JioPhone to consumers who had booked the phone in August. Sources from the company told a news agency that Jio had started sending JioPhone, an effectively free 4G phone to its retailers from where the consumers will be picking it up. In total, Jio hopes to ship out around 6 million phones in the next 15 days.

Earlier, India Today Tech had reported that the JioPhone deliveries were delayed. When people booked the phone way back in August, the expected delivery time for the device was first half of September. However, later the date was pushed to September 21. But a few days ago India Today Tech learnt that the JioPhone deliveries to consumers were delayed again and that the phone would be now delivered from October first week. The latest report seemingly confirms the India Today Tech reports as it seems that the current delivery of the JioPhone that sources are talking of is for the delivery to Jio retailers. The phone will start reaching consumers only after four-five days.

The report in PTI comes days after Jio started showing the JioPhone to media, allaying fears that the phone was a vapourware. As India Today Tech wrote on Saturday, the phone exists, works well, looks like a feature phone, has smart features and delivers fast 4G. Although this impression is based on a very brief use and should not be taken as a review of the phone.

Here is what we wrote in the quick review of the device:

Overall, I have liked the JioPhone so far. I like what I see. I like what Jio has done with it, and the way it has conceptualised the JioPhone. Free VolTE calls with the JioPhone is going to woo a lot of consumers to Jio. The fact that the JIoPhone is effectively free is also going to help the phone a lot. And then there are the services bundled with it. The JioTV app. The music streaming. All of it works well enough due to the high-speed connection.
