The Bad, The Worse and The I GIVE UP

Our Deepest Thoughts

We all have bad things going on in our lives. Relationship, family, financial, health, vices, love, fear. All can prove to be emotionally daunting. People tend to say, “stop worrying so much” or “it’s not THAT big of a deal”. What they’re hopefully trying to say is, “I know you’ll come out of this ok”. Each one of our problems IS a big problem in our mind because it creates barriers for us. It keeps us from being productive or feeling motivated. Let’s call these things weights, because they weigh us down by holding us back emotionally / mentally / physically.

Our weight often comes in multiples, not just one, but there’s usually one weight that bears on us more than the others. We can become depressed or anxious, some go to substances for relief. Then there’s the little everyday things that are effected by the weight: keep from eye contact, loose interest, push people away, lose sleep, space out, talk down on ourselves, get snappy with others, eat too much or too little. These are our individual coping mechanisms (our go-to) that we may rely on to “get us through”. People might not like it but we know why we do what we do.

Don’t fall asleep, I want you to stop and think back to about 10 years ago. Try to remember something you were going through that felt overwhelming.

Looking back, was it bad problem? Were you dealing with it right or wrong? Do you wish you would have done things differently?

The answer is “yes” for some and “no” for others. But, in my humble opinion, it should be No. I’m glad I made the decisions I did because I've learned from that. I learned who I was, what I was capable of dealing with and I overcame it. You see, your problem now is no different than your problem 10 years ago. It may be bigger, more mind-blowing… But it wouldn’t be a big problem if it wasn’t…because you’ve been through less. This my friends is just another trial, something else to get through and overcome.

With ANY problem you have… Try to do something each day to make yourself feel better.

  • Example: Financial struggles
Make a list of all debt you owe.
Pick one debt and remind yourself every day that you need to get that one paid off. Keep paying towards debts until you have peace of mind.
    Repeat.

  • Example 2: Mental / Physical Struggles
Make a list of things you enjoy doing: From sports to your favorite sweet craving.
Take 5 minutes out of your day to think about every one of the things you wrote down. Imagine yourself doing these things.

If you're like me, maybe dark chocolate will work. Imagine unwrapping a Dove dark chocolate, reading the quote inside, admiring the perfect shape and perfectly placed chocolaty logo, now taking several small bites, savoring every bit of flavor and licking your finger when it’s all gone.

Imagination, along with sub-conscience is powerful. The hope is that you will do these things for yourself when you have good days. It is the things that we have no control of that can weigh us down the most.

Just because you’re weighed down doesn’t mean your everyday has to be bad. YOU ARE NOT YOUR PROBLEMS. I know it sound cliche but it’s sooo true. Free yourself from your weight..or at least help to ease it by making your quality of life better.

No problem is too big…
