10 Ways to Repurpose Your Trash

In this article, we will look at ten ways to repurpose ordinary items that would be considered trash. By reusing and repurposing items in your home, you can save money and also reduce your waste footprint.

Repurpose Your Trash!

  1. Plastic Bottles: Reuse those old plastic bottles to store bite-size snacks. You can fill them with raisins, sunflower seeds, nuts, etc... You can also store dried herbs, flour, and other items. Plastic bottles are great for all kinds of crafts.
  2. Two Liter Planter: Cut the bottom 1/3 of a two-liter soda bottle and use it as a planter for herbs and small plants. You can even paint the container, to make it a little more attractive.
  3. Jars: Use those old pickle and pasta sauce jars as storage. You can store all kinds of things like buttons, art supplies, dried foods and more. You can dress them up with the kids and make it into a fun crafting projects.
  4. Cardboard: Probably one of the most overlooked and useful items on the planet. You can use cardboard to build and construct all kinds of project. Keeping old cardboard can add hours of creative crafting opportunities for you and the kids. Cardboard can also be used to put in the bottle of your raised planting beds to help regulate water.
  5. Newspaper: Newspaper can be used as wrapping paper for the perfect green gift. You can also use it for packing material to protect fragile items.
  6. Aluminum Foil: Aluminum foil has many uses. You can ball it up and use it to scrub your backyard bbq. Make small foil balls and put them in your dryer to reduce static electricity. Put aluminum foil under the fabric on your ironing board, this heats up both sides of the item and reduces ironing time.
  7. Paper Towels and Toilet Paper Cardboard Rolls: The cardboard rolls can be used to store your Christmas lights, USB, and other electronics cables. Simply roll up the cable and stuff them in. You can use them to create a knife sheath, by flattening the roll and taping one end. Cardboard rolls can also be used in all kinds of craft projects.
  8. Nylon Mesh Bags: Fill those old oranges and vegetable mesh bags with leaves, grass, and small twigs. Hang the bag outside. The local wildlife will use the content in the construction of nests.
  9. Egg Cartons: Egg cartons can be used to create molds for Jell-O and other baked treats. They make excellent containers for starting your seedlings for your spring garden. They are also wonderful for use in crafting projects.
  10. Plastic Grocery Bags: Plastic grocery bags have many uses. You can use them as trash can liners for small trashcans. They make excellent packing material. You can put them over your knees when gardening to prevent nasty dirt and grass stains. When cold weather hits, you can put one over your car mirrors to prevent ice on your mirrors.
