Recently on the 21st of June, 2021 KATH (Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Ghana) marked the day as Sickling Day to help look at the difficulties clients with sickle cell disease go through in times of this rainy season.

Couples with positive sickling status have 25% chances of bringing forth children with sickle cell disease.

Children with sickle cell disease are mostly hospitalized throughout their lives since numerous factors can trigger crisis being it dehydration, cold weather conditions to note most importantly, causing anemia, respiratory distress, and many more ailments, also at higher risk of contracting other illness.

We understand its good to have kids with someone you love but is it worth not knowing your status and causing pain to them (children) and also affecting your day-to-day activities not only to you but more importantly to your kids.
From my point of view on issues relating to sickle cell disease, it does not matter how much you love your partner, its better to sacrifice the love you have for each other if you both test positive to sickling status or better still go in for adoption to help save your future children from suffering as there is a proverb which goes "sickling status does not mean no kids."

We certainly share the same setiment on this issue, this is why I always advise my friend to know their status so they don’t fall in love before finding out they shouldn’t be together, thanks for this great post
