Dugouts in Kotlas. Part 1

in WORLD OF XPILAR13 days ago

So I lived in Veliky Ustyug for many years. I had no idea that I would ever be interested in the atmosphere of the dugouts. I lived for myself, photographed landscapes, courtyards, villages...then I moved to Vologda, and after a while, I became interested in vegetable storages. I began to study the places where they are. It turned out that there were none in their hometown at all.

But there are many of them in the neighboring city of Kotlas, in the Arkhangelsk region. But I've been there many times, I dreamed of photographing night courtyards, and I shot different landscapes.

But here I am in a new multiverse, where dugouts are open for me.

It turns out that there are a lot of them in the DOK (woodworking plant) microdistrict, where they stand along the shore of the Northern Dvina River, right on the edge.

All the cellars are square, apparently, this is a tradition of construction.

Even now they stretch over a kilometer in length, and how many of them there were before!

I arrived early, at dusk. A bright sky is like a contour light - it's always bad with it, you have to highlight it with a flashlight.

There is a dirt road along the dugouts.

I wouldn't say that they drive there all the time, but you can get through.

If you go behind the cellars, you can see a mighty river and a cliff about fifty meters high.

At first, which happens very often, I was scared in these places.

But then I got used to the gloom of the place, with a strong north wind near the river and the fact that there was no one here.

And I felt comfortable...although I didn't fully immerse myself in the feeling that I was at home...It was like I was visiting anyway.

To be continued....
