Il rododendro è una pianta appartenente alla famiglia delle Ericaceae, molto apprezzata per i suoi fiori vistosi e colorati, che la rendono una delle piante ornamentali più amate in giardini e parchi. Il suo nome deriva dal greco e significa "albero delle rose", un chiaro riferimento alla bellezza dei suoi fiori. Originario di diverse regioni dell'emisfero settentrionale, il rododendro è particolarmente diffuso nelle zone montuose dell'Asia, dell'Europa e del Nord America.

Il rododendro può assumere diverse forme, da piccoli arbusti a veri e propri alberi, a seconda della specie. Le sue foglie sono sempreverdi, coriacee e di forma ovale, con margini lisci e una superficie lucida. Le foglie di alcune varietà possono essere più grandi, mentre altre sono di dimensioni ridotte, ma in generale hanno un aspetto robusto e duraturo.
