In these photos I show the final part of the Cesenatico pier. Cesenatico is a town located in the eastern part of Italy and has a coastline that is bathed by the Adriatic Sea.
This small port is of a certain historical importance, in fact it was excavated in the very early years of the 14th century by the medieval municipality of Cesena. This port is also called Leonardesco port in memory of the scientist and inventor Leonardo da Vinci. Here, however, a disagreement seems to arise.
There are those who say that this port was designed by Leonardo da Vinci, in reality there is something that unites this port to the scientist, but it was not designed by him.
Why does this confusion exist?
The thing is very interesting. In Leonardo da Vinci's notebook there is an exact reconstruction of this port, that is, in his notebook known as the "L manuscript of France", which is a Leonardo da Vinci code preserved at the Institut de France, there are drawings that faithfully report this canal port. However, Leonardo's drawings were not made for the design of this port, which had already taken place, but because the inventor was commissioned to report detailed information of this port and he did so with several drawings and even a view from above. Leonardo da Vinci's inspection of Cesenatico was commissioned by Cesare Borgia. He had to verify the civil and military infrastructure of the new Duchy of Romagna.
Cesare Borgia was an Italian general, cardinal and politician who lived between 1400 and 1500.

Personal considerations
Finally this post led me to do some research and gave me the opportunity to clearly understand what linked this port to the name of Leonardo. I also understand those who exaggerated in transferring the information that this port was designed by Leonardo da Vinci because this small port is really very beautiful, a work of art that Leonardo probably could have easily done. Who knows, perhaps Leonardo when he made the inspection, could have even been a little envious for not having actually designed it himself.

In queste foto mostro la parte finale del molo di Cesenatico. Cesenatico è un paese che si trova nella parte est dell’Italia e possiede un litorale che è bagnato dal mar Adriatico.
Questo piccolo porto è di una certa rilevanza storica, infatti venne scavato nei primissimi anni del XIV secolo dal Comune medievale di Cesena. Questo porto viene anche chiamato porto Leonardesco in memoria dello scienziato ed inventore Leonardo da Vinci. Qui però sembra nascere un dissenso.
C’è chi afferma che questo porto sia stato pensato da leonardo da Vinci, in realtà c’è qualcosa che unisce questo porto allo scienziato, ma non fu progettato da lui.
Perché esiste questo disguido?
La cosa è molto interessante. Nel taccuino di Leonardo da Vinci c’è l’esatta ricostruzione di questo porto, cioè nel suo taccuino noto come “manoscritto L di Francia”, che è uno codice di Leonardo da Vinci conservato presso l'Institut de France, sono presenti disegni che riportano fedelmente questo porto canale. I disegni di Leonardo però non erano stati fatti per la progettazione di questo porto, che era già avvenuta, ma perché l’inventore fu incaricato di riportare informazioni dettagliate di questo porto e lui lo fece con diversi disegni e addirittura una vista dall’alto. Il sopralluogo di Leonardo da Vinci a Cesenatico fu incaricato da Cesare Borgia. Egli doveva verificare le infrastrutture civili e militari del nuovo ducato della Romagna.
Cesare Borgia è stato un generale, cardinale e politico italiano vissuto tra il 1400 ed il 1500.

Considerazioni personali
Finalmente questo post mi ha indotto a fare una ricerca e mi ha dato la possibilità di capire con chiarezza cosa univa questo porto al nome di Leonardo. Io capisco anche chi ha esagerato nel trasferire l’informazione che questo porto fu progettato da Leonardo da Vinci perchè questo piccolo porto è davvero molto bello, un opera d’arte che probabilmente Leonardo avrebbe potuto tranquillamente fare. Chissà, forse Leonardo quando fece il sopralluogo, potrebbe anche aver avuto un poco di invidia per non averlo realmente progettato lui.
