Hello beautiful, I hope you had a good night's sleep, Johnson asks his wife, Grace. While walking around the room, trying to arrange things and cleaning since Grace was heavily pregnant. It was a Saturday morning.

Grace; The kicks from your baby in my tummy wouldn't let me sleep soundly, and having to sleep only sideways was a bit inconvenient.

Johnson; I am sorry, baby, but you know what? You are the best wife in the universe and the best mom already. You never miss your routine drugs or your antenatal, just to make sure your baby is fine. I am proud of you, I am doing all I can to support you, you know what? You don't have to do anything today, I will do them.

Grace; Thank you very much, my world.

Johnson gave Alice a peck and continued with the cleaning; afterward, he prepared his wife's favorite meal and had breakfast together. They are the best couple who loved themselves so dearly, and Johnson is the caring and supportive husband.

A phone rang, and it was MR. Etukudo, the CEO of a transportation company in which Johnson worked.

Etukudo; Hello Johnson, how are you and your wife?

Johnson; My wife and I are fine. how are you, sir?

Etukudo; I am fine, I called to
Inform you that you have been scheduled to drive passengers to Abuja Tomorrow

Johnson; Thank you very much, sir; I shall be there in time.

Johnson informed his wife about the call for work, she was not happy about it as she never wanted to miss her husband, but Johnson spoke consolingly to her, telling her that he was going to be back in three days. Meanwhile, he made arrangements with his younger sister to come stay with his wife while he was away.

Three Days passed, and Johnson was not back. Grace was very worried, she called her husband but his number was not going through, she called her husband's company, and she was told that her husband departed Abuja twenty-four hours ago and that he should have been home before then, that meanwhile the company is trying to reach him and know what's going on with him. Grace ended the call, and she was in deep fear because it was not safe to travel on land in the country because of banditry. She cried unconsolingly, and she lamented," Would Johnson leave me in this state? Would he leave without seeing his unborn child? How am I going to pay the hospital bills, and how am I going to care for this baby? Johnson, please don't do this to us, she said in a shaking and terrified voice. Akon, her sister-in-law was with her while she lamented.

Akon; Sister, please don't say that; nothing is wrong with your husband, my brother. Maybe he is in a spot where the network bandwidth is low, and something may be wrong with his vehicle.

Grace: He couldn't repair the car for a whole day and can't even reach out to his wife or company? I am scared, you know how insecure that part of the country is.

Akon; I know, but let's be optimistic; God will always protect him for you.

Grace and Akon could not sleep; they sat watching the door and waiting for a knock, which they eventually heard. They rush down to open the door for Johnson while exclaiming his name, but sadly, it was the landlord who knocked to ask about Johnson's well-being since they were friends, and he could not reach Johnson either. Grace narrated everything to him, and they both prayed for Divine protection for Johnson.

The next morning, Grace was in labor, and she was rushed to the hospital, where she safely delivered a baby boy. Johnson returned and could not find his wife, so he asked his landlord who directed him to the hospital where his wife was taken. Johnson rushed down to the hospital, met his wife and son, and Grace was so happy to see her husband once again. He paid the hospital bills, and when it was time, his wife and son were discharged from the hospital. Johnson named his son Michael.

Johnson narrated the reason he could not return on time, that some bandits operated on the way, and they had to pack the car and run into the bush, where he lost his phone. Upon hearing his explanation, everyone in the family begged to stop working for the transportation company as a driver, but Johnson was scared to make such a drastic decision, especially when he just had a newborn baby; how would he provide for his family, he thought.

A few weeks later, as usual, Johnson received a call for work. Grace tried to stop him, but he would not listen to her, he had to go to work so that his family would have food. He promised his wife that, he would be back in three days as usual, and Grace was hopeful.

On the morning of the Day that Johnson was supposed to return, Grace called him, and he picked up and told his wife that he departed a few hours earlier and would be home in six to seven hours. Grace was happy to hear from her husband.

Six hours passed, and Johnson never arrived home, Grace called, but his number was not reachable. She lamented, but her sister-in-law consoled her that nothing was wrong.

The landlord's phone rang, and he and his wife were with Grace on the veranda.

Caller: Good morning, sir. Am I speaking with the Landlord of Mr. Johnson?

Landlord: Yes, how may I help you?

Caller; We are calling from the police unit, Kogi state. Mr. Johnson was shot to death by unknown bandits.

Short of words, the landlord broke; he was shattered; he could not believe what he heard. He passed the news to others. Grace fainted and was attended to; she woke up after some hours.

Grace Johnson can not do this to me; I begged Johnson every day, please don't go, leave the work, it's not safe, but he wouldn't listen. How can he die and leave his newborn baby? No, it's a lie; Johnson can't die. I feared this darkest moment every day. I pleaded and prayed for it not to happen, but God never listened; he forsook me. What am I saying? It's not Johnson; it can not be him; the policemen made a mistake; they called the wrong person.

In her darkest moment, Grace shook, and she could not eat. She kept calling her husband but his number was not reachable. The landlord and the brothers of Johnson arranged for delegates to visit the police station in Kogi state to verify the information, and upon getting there, it was true that Johnson was shot to death. They made arrangements and brought his corpse to be buried.

Grace cried unconsolingly. Indeed, she was in the darkest moment of her life. She doesn't even know where to start, as her husband is the breadwinner of the house. Till this moment, she is still struggling to care for her baby, still sorrowful, and still in her darkest moment.

The End
