Synopsis

Who or what maims and kills the children of a small American town? Why does horror come cyclically to Derry in the form of a sinister clown wreaking havoc as he goes? This is what the protagonists of this novel set out to find out.

After twenty-seven years of tranquility and distance, an old childhood promise makes them return to the place where they lived their childhood and youth like a terrible nightmare. They return to Derry to face their past and finally bury the threat that embittered them during their childhood. They know that they can die, but they are aware that they will not know peace until that thing is destroyed forever.

We begin the book with one of the protagonists, Bill Denbrough, who begins a search with his group of friends to find his younger brother who disappeared, with the passing of days, the collection of information and the macabre events that occur at around each of the members, they take them towards That, an entity that has the ability to transform into people's fear using this resource to be able to feed on it and the body.

Each of the characters has several factors in common, among those that they all suffered harassment by a boy somewhat older than them, the writer portrays them as the prototype of "nerds" despite this we can see a large gap between each of which makes that gives originality and individualization to each one, makes the plot much more interesting, since the discussions and conflicts add more interest to the plot and give a comical nuance to the situation on some occasions, but despite this the bond of friendship and loyalty is not broken.

As the book progresses we can see how the members of the group distance themselves from each other, since each one at the beginning of their adult life took separate paths with each other, the change in the members of the group is remarkable, since they lose some of the characteristics that made them stand out as children.

Obviously, It could not be missing, in my opinion one of the most interesting characters in the King universe, an alien that came to earth millions of years before, as a result of something similar to an asteroid collision, where the town of Derry was built much later. Derry, after the town began to be occupied by people causing the alien to wake up and start eating people for a period of time, returning to an internment stage every 28 years.

The real aspect of It is somewhat complicated to know since it is a shapeshifter, for this reason children remember it differently, a leper, a mummy and even zombies, the aspect that it uses the most is that of Pennywise the dancing clown or Bob Gray usually hunts people with these two, in his refuge, the sewers he describes them to us as a giant spider.

Between each cycle of 28 years, where children disappear and are killed by this entity, they are never investigated by the authorities, with the passage of time, people gradually erase what happened, not being able to remember accepting the vague answers of the police. This happens because It has been able to create a bond with the town and its inhabitants, preventing Derry from becoming the center of attention from other parts, so that he can calmly continue his hunt.

The timeline of the book is divided into two, with jumps to the past and back to the present, as the plot progresses several of the previous events make sense as they are explained as they progress.

The development of the characters goes at a perfect time, the scenarios that the writer poses are very detailed, allowing us to make a fairly clear picture, with each event, each chapter is very engaging, the narrative used is perfect to keep the reader on the lookout , is a combination of horror, sadness and comedy, with the right measure of the three leaving you a good read.
