Ahora está todo claro. Lo que me dijo mi mejor amigo Miguel lo explica todo. Salidas para jugar con los amigos prohibidas después de las seis de la tarde, aún más salir a jugar estando solo. Y si sos menor de 21 años, el toque de queda empieza a las cuatro y media. De noche, un adulto solo puede salir por tres razones: emergencias, trabajo y cultos en las iglesias. Después del toque de queda, niños y adolescentes que no están en edad de trabajar solo pueden salir por emergencias sin adultos que les acompañen. También podrían salir para irse a la iglesia, pero los padres prefieren que siempre haya un adulto por tras. Los foráneos no pueden visitar las villas bajo ningún concepto. Y nunca, nunca, nunca, mirar detenidamente y con aire de curiosidad a desconocidos residentes en las favelas. Más tarde, la quiebra de esa regla por mi hermana, aunque fue por accidente, nos haría pasar factura....

Now it's all explained. What my best friend Miguel told me clears everything. Going out to play with friends is forbidden after six P.M., even more so going out to play alone. And if you are under 21, the curfew starts at half past four P.M. At night, an adult can only go out for three reasons: emergencies, work and church services. After curfew, children and teenagers who are not of working age can only go out for emergencies without adults accompanying them. They may also leave for church, but parents prefer that there always be accompanied by an adult. Out-of-town are not allowed to visit the favelas under any circumstances. And never, never, never intriguingly stare at unknown people living in the favelas. Later, my sister's breaking of this rule, albeit by accident, would take its toll on us...
