“LEGENDS IN GOLD” my experience @lamexicana

in #gold7 years ago (edited)

Dear steemians, welcome to the legends in gold!

Some months ago I had the opportunity to attended a exhibition dedicated to Thracian culture. I felt extremely lucky because the only places outside Bulgaria where it has been possible to see these artifacts are the Louvre in Paris, the Moscow Museum, the National Museum of Western Art in Tokyo and now here in Norway.

Many of the artifacts are made of pure gold and silver and the level of detail in the handicraft is unbelievable when you see it at close.

This is the 4000 years old magical world that we recognize from the Greek and Roman myths, in a powerful kingdom that had its centre in what is now Bulgaria.

The Thracians were «the most populous people after the Indians», according to the Ancient Greek historian Herodotus (484 – 425 BC) who also describes them as a tall and fair-haired warriors.

Orpheus, Apollo and Dionisus were the three of the most famous figures. Here is the picture of Apollo the son of Zeus.

Thracians were also famous for make jewelry, ornaments and producing high quality wine.

The exhibition is a national treasure in Bulgaria and their value can hardly be measured in money.

After approximately 400 AD the Thracians seem to have disappeared and incorporated into the Roman or Greek culture.

Herodotus writes «If they had been ruled by one man or had agreed with one another, they would in my opinion have been infallible and the most powerful of all peoples…»
