Culinary Cuts

Culinary cuts are the various ways we can slice or dice our vegetables, fruits, and other ingredients when preparing them for cooking and presentation with the aim being to enhance visual appeal, control the cooking time and texture, release flavors/aromas and Improve safety and handling during preparation.

I started my cuts by thoroughly washing all the items to be used.

Segmenting
I felt segmenting was one of the most simple culinary curts, so i went for it in my example. This cut is also known as quartering. It involves cutting into four or more from top to bottom.

Steps

  • Cut the fruits from top to bottom into two halves.
  • Cut each have into two smaller halves

Brunoise
This cut needs a bit of precision during cutting,

Steps

  • Cutting the end of the carrot.
  • Slice off the sides to make is square.
  • Divide the carrot into "planks" that is 1/8 of an inch
  • Slice the planks in to matchsticks sizes
  • Dice them in to small cubes

Below is a video showing both Segmenting and Brunoise.

Some culinary cuts I found

Diagonal Cutting
The diagonal cutting is also known as "bias cutting". It is technique that involves the cutting of vegetables, fruits, plantain, meat and other ingredients at a 45-degree angle, just to make it visually appealing, increased the surface area for cooking, and make tender and easier-to-chew pieces.

Steps

  • Place the and cut the vegetables at an angle.

Paysanne
The Paysanne is an interesting culinary cutting technique that involves cutting vegetables into small and irregular shapes, typically with a rough, rustic texture.

Steps

  • Cut at an angle.
  • Then rotate and cut.

Below is a short vedios covering the steps for cutting diagonal and Paysanne.

Your healthy recipe looks amazing. You use some fruits and vegetables to make it and obviously it contains a trove of nutrients. And the extra advantage is that a simple but vibrant dish is very easy to make. Your video explanation is very good and made your publication very comprehensible. Good luck with your cooking skills.

Thank you, your comment is very encouraging. I am happy i used the fruit salad after creating it. It was yummy and crunchy all the way.

Your creativity is something I cannot doubt. Your explanation is well perfect and the short videos you made. Vegetables are really really good for our health and this are things I consume on daily based. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for your nice comment, i really appreciate.

I had it chilled before serving. You should see how my fruit-loving kids pounced on it. It was a sight to behold. Befor the suggestion to use it on rice came up; - too late!, it had already been devoured.

Seeing a man amongst the women gladdens my heart. I was beginning to wonder if steemit men don't cook, well you just proved me wrong. I can see you learned so well and all you have practiced here seem interesting. The diagonal cutting and the Paysanne looks interesting, I will try it out one of the days. You will have to follow up with the class to learn more and explore in your kitchen.

I am happy to learn from your homework today. Thank you and good luck to you!

Thank you for the warm welcome. I will definitely do my best to keep up with the lessons and the practical sessions in this training.

Hola amigo.

Saludos y bendiciones.

You learned it very well,...
Usually when we cook, we only know that the vegetable has been cut without knowing the name of the cutting method...
I hope you are successful in this contest, friend... 👍

How amazing is it to see you in our class!
