Soul Mate (5 Minute Freewrite)

I knew the second I saw her that we were meant to be together. I knew it was a rare thing to be able to recognize your soul mate at first glance, but it was a skill I had. I could see people's souls.

Sure, I had messed up before. Thought that a woman was "The One" until she proved me wrong.

That day was different. SHE was different. I was just in line getting coffee and I heard coffee splattering on the floor.

"FUCK!" sent a bit of a shock through the quiet shop, and definitely caught my attention.

I looked over and saw her.

Her eyes met mine and I felt as if someone had physically pushed me backward. I think I gasped or maybe I held my breath. I couldn't look away.

I felt my friend tugging on my arm, heard my name as if it was coming from a million miles away, but all I saw was her.

"Dude, come ON. Stop staring at that chick, She has crazy eyes. You don't need another crazy woman in your life. Come on. Remember what always happens. Please, just ignore her. Get your coffee, you'll feel better."

I went through the motions, but all I could think of was her. Those 'crazy' eyes. I would have sworn I could still feel them boring into me even as I ordered.

Maybe she felt it as much as I did. Surely she did. This couldn't possibly be a one-way thing. She'd nearly knocked me on my ass.

I held my breath, imagining how the conversation would go in my mind. I'd say something chill, maybe a little charming and she'd laugh and tease me. We'd exchange numbers and I'd call her later for a date.

I turned, putting on my best smile, ready to offer to buy her a coffee to replace the one she'd spilled.

There she was, looking much more put together... with another man's arms around her, holding her close.

It was like a punch in the gut.

Just before I looked away, our eyes met again. I still felt it. The connection.

It might not be my day, the timing might be off, but she would be mine. I started making plans in my head. I'd follow her until he was gone. I'd watch her every move... I'd find her alone someday and make her mine.

There was still room in my backfield if she didn't behave. She could join the others if it turned out she was crazy. Or maybe this one would be different. This one might be my real soul-mate. My one true love.

Love could heal the crazy. I was sure of it.

For a 5 minutes free write I will say this is beautiful and well composed
Nice one

I've done so many of these, it gets easier and easier! Thank you!

Where have you BEEN?
My sense of this person being a bit off emotionally transitioned to a sense of this person being a bit off psychologically too, then grew into OK this poor guy is a bit more than just off to burying women who just happen to catch his eye in his (his? Her?) back yard! Yes! Great story!
I've missed you. I see I should be getting over to your place more often.

Yeah, I've been writing and publishing novels this past year, so I haven't been here much. Life has been chaos and it's throwing me off my writing game, so I'm back to freewrites that always inspired me!

Good for us! Life does that sometimes. I hope things even out for you.

Can love heal you? hehehe
I loved that, I do believe in soulmate..

I'm a bot. I detect haiku.

Yeah, I thought it was going to be all romantic and then... it just wasn't. I couldn't help myself.

Wow!
Extremely well written and well edited, Byn - with an unreliable narrator who's kinda scary. I don't know about this "dude." But I'm reminded of a comment I loved in a book:

I do not think we can even choose our soul mate. It seems to just happen. So sometimes your soul mate is wonderful. And sometimes your soul mate is an asshole.

No editing here, just a freewrite :) Thank you! I am married (25 years and counting) to my soulmate. I totally believe in them! (And I'm glad mine isn't an asshole... I LOVE LOVE LOVE that quote!!!)

No editing...and it's a freewrite...we have some REAL TALENT here!!!
I believe in soul mates too and I thank my lucky stars that I found mine 33 years ago!

Oh my goodness, which one is truly craziest. You had me from the gate. Much love,@byn.

Howdy Byn! That relationship sounds like trouble to me but I guess it wouldn't be boring! lol. This is a very interesting freewrite!
