I want to share my experiences in Ethiopia

in #ethiopia8 years ago (edited)

Hi folks! This is my first post on steemit.

I volunteered in Ethiopia for 2 years from 2014 to May 2016.
I'd like to share my experiences before forget reminiscences.

Disclaimer: There are no colorful bokeh photos or heart touching stories on this post.

Welcome to Addis Ababa

This is capital city of Ethiopia at an elevation of 2300m!  They use Amharic as an official language(at least in Addis Ababa). Addis Ababa means "New Flower" in Amharic. You will be named "Farengi"(means foreign) and be a Hollywood star. You should be careful pickpockets and beggars in everywhere. But I miss this laid back city sometimes.

Something to eat, drink....COFFEE!!

If you want to try some Ethiopian cuisine, I recommend "Shakla Tibs" to you. This is kind of roasted beef which is served on the clay pot. This is awesome!

This is my favorite burger restaurants in Ethiopia, Sishu Burger. REAL BURGER. With Ambo sparkling water.

You can see lots of coffee shops on the street. Coffee is "Bunna" in Amharic. But they put at least more than 3 tea spoons of sugar on every drinking. Sometime they eat kolo(Roasted Grain) with drinking coffee.

There are several roasted coffee bean distributer and Aster is one of them. But I like Robera Coffee’s more because I prefer acidity. Tomoca is also famous but this one is quite strong for me.

It is not so easy to write a post in non-native language, but fun! See you next time with more photos!

Enjoyed your post, and personal images of Ethiopia. The essence of the place really comes though. Also, your communication is quite good for non-native english speaker.

Great work. Major respect for people that volunteer to contribute to society !!

Nice @woung717
