Could Ethereum be the big winner in the upcoming Bitcoin vs Bitcoin cash battle

in #ethereum7 years ago

I have been pondering moving my crypto back into Bitcoin and hopefully catch a bounce back from the recent dip caused by the addition of Bitcoin Cash to Coinbase. However, I have been hearing that many believe that Bitcoin Cash will overtake and replace Bitcoin. I, like many others, have been torn about which horse to bet on. On one hand Bitcoin is the big boy and draws new people into the market ,on the other, Bitcoin Cash has cheaper and faster transactions. I have come to the conclusion that while this battle rages on I am going to park my Crypto in the safer alternative which is Ethereum. I cannot see a down side to Ethereum in this battle, it has fast cheap transactions along with the added value of Smart Contracts. If this is a long battle with no clear winner I can imagine others adopting this philosophy making Ethereum the true winner.

You're right; it is hard to choose. On one hand, anyone who actually has had to move bitocoin recently knows its slow and painfully expensive, especially for small quantities. Bitcoin cash on the other hand feels modern and quick. On the other hand whenever I have bet against Bitcoin, I've always got hurt. It seems that the power the core brand is to strong.

I like ETH long term as well for it's incredible smart contract utility and quick blocktimes. Though I don't think it'll be the same kind of store of value that BTC or BCH is due to inflation, it'll definitely go further then it is now. Good long term hold no doubt.

Some opinions: Ethereum suffers from a lack of scalability for the present, and was brought to its knees by recent crypto-kitty fiasco. There are some ERC20 tokens that fund some interesting projects though (CVC, EOS, ..). BCH is moving because of being listed for first time on fiat exchange (Coinbase). BTC is still the brand, and core of the space for now. Best bet may be to hold both BTC and BCH, and I did increase BTC on the dip this week. As a currency, BCH is likely inferior long-term to some other projects, like Dash, Monero, PIVX, as the need for privacy and efficiency is central to long-term utility for a world currency. I think one should diversify among the best projects, including BTC, as opposed to all one or another.

Maybe one of Ethereum's child platforms will solve the scaling problem...I am watching Dragonchain to see how it makes out.
