[ LEARN & EARN - Week#16] There is a massive crisis in Venezuela and some lakes can form deadly gas chambers that suffocate everything in its surrounds.

My weekly entry into a really great contest created by @matkodurko, anyone can enter and its a great way to keep the wheels in your brain turning!

1. There is a massive crisis in Venezuela

I was made aware of this by @cryptosharon, she is in Venezuela at the moment and she is saying there has been a complete meltdown of the economy.

This is following years of frustration with their president who seems to be a corrupt dictator.

From what I can see there has been no power for a number of days, following shortages of food, medicine and water.

Their currency is so worthless, people have been using the the note papers to fold into bags and sculptures to sell. Its a complete humanitarian crisis and Colombia have taken in millions of Venezuelans.

I watched some videos on youtube and I see some people are literally selling their hair for enough money to get over the border.

2. The scientific name of the Western Lowland Gorilla

The scientific name for this Gorilla is "Gorilla Gorilla Gorilla" (I kid you not)

They are subspecies of the Western Gorilla ( scientific name : Gorilla Gorilla)

3. Some lakes can erupt a gas cloud that will suffocate all surrounding humans and animals .

Its a natural disaster called a Limnic Eruption or Lake Overturn in which a high concentration of dissolved Carbon Dioxide (CO2) erupts from a lake and practically forms a fatal gas chamber to the surrounding area.

> " In recent history, this phenomenon has been observed twice. The first recorded limnic eruption occurred in Cameroon at Lake Monoun in 1984, causing asphyxiation and death of 37 people living nearby.A second, deadlier eruption happened at neighbouring Lake Nyos in 1986, this time releasing over 80 million m3 of CO2, killing around 1,700 people and 3,500 livestock, again by asphyxiation.

4. The Ethiopian Airlines Crash from Sunday Morning Was The Same Model Of Boeing That Crashed In Indonesia In October Last Year!

Both flights took place on the Boeing 737 MAX 8 -- a new model recently unveiled by the US aviation giant, that saw its first flight less than two years ago.

"At the root of October's Lion Air crash was a new safety system installed in the MAX 8 plane, known as the Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System (MCAS), that automatically pulls the plane's nose down if data suggests it is at risk.

In that flight, the system was responding to faulty data that suggested the nose was tilted at a higher angle than it was, indicating the plane was at risk of stalling.

The pilots subsequently engaged in a futile tug-of-war with the plane's automatic systems, trying to reverse a nosedive that should not be triggered so soon after takeoff. Boeing has argued that pilots should have identified the system was in operation, and turned it off."

Humans are not exempt from this :D Although the scientific name for humans is mostly "homo sapiens", some sources use "homo sapiens sapiens" when contrasting it with Neanderthals, which are sometimes referred to as "homo sapiens neanderthalensis" (although most of the time, they're simply referred as "homo neanderthalensis").

But I admit it's way funnier with Gorilla Gorilla Gorilla

Just imagine if it were Human Human Human, it sounds like caveman speech, so no wonder it's so funny with gorillas, which are arguably a more primitive version of humans.

The subspecies-denoting repetition is a common phenomenon and I'm sure you can find many more such repetitions. Here are some subspecies of Pithecops corvus:

  • Pithecops corvus corvus (Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia, Nias, Borneo)
  • Pithecops corvus corax Fruhstorfer, 1919 (Java to the Philippines)
  • Pithecops corvus ryukyeuensis Shirôzu, 1964 (Japan: Ryukyus)
  • Pithecops corvus correctus Cowan, 1965 (Naga Hills)
  • Pithecops corvus cornix Cowan, 1965 (Hainan)

I see "corvus corax" in the list and I'm reminded of the Corvus Corax musical group that I enjoyed so much a decade ago haha

Yupp, the situation in Vene is crazy...I've learned about it partially cuz of @milkabustamante...she also had to go to Colombia cuz of work...Thx for entering!

The situation in Venezuela is getting desperate. I don't know if you noticed, but Venezuelans have stopped posting in Steem. They are without electricity for 4 days now. 😕

The Boing situation doesn't seem difficult to solve but American companies already have a track record of putting profits over the safety of their own customers. I wonder how this will end? If they don't recall all the planes to avoid wasting money to fix this problem, you know what to do: boycott Boing.

Either way, I think Boing is a company that needs to be boycotted, independently of this case. It's the number 1 Weapons Dealer of the World, responsible for selling Weapons to Genocidal Regimes like South Arabia and Israel.

Great post, Alicia! Well done!

Im shocked at how bad it is! I havent noticed that all of them have stopped posting but Im not surprised....@cryptosharon are you still there ??

I did not know that but also makes sense when I think about it, a boycott is in order for sure! I see that people are panicking now though, but airlines wont refund them for their tickets! Im so glad Im not in the market for a flight at the moment

I'm here! Sometimes I have electricity, sometimes I don't, and this morning, I do have some, so I post. But all around the country there are cities with 5 days straight without electricity and access to the internet.

Many internet companies aren't providing their services nowadays because they are also affected by the blackout.

Besides, people have a lot to do nowadays! Many more people than before are running around looking for food and water every day, solving their needs, and Steem, as seems logical, is a second priority.

We are glad youre still here! Please do keep us posted on the situation over there.
Are there any talks of getting the power back on?

No, they can't fix it. It can easily take months. The plants are broken and need replacement parts they don't currently have access to. Instead, they are imprisoning opposition members and journalists because they now have the perfect excuse. "Sabotage!", they scream, and Maduro calls for criminal gangs to intimidate and murder the opposition.

In the first link, you can see that they aren't even trying to transparently solve the issue. They are blocking specialists from accessing any information and are kicking out employees. They want to keep Venezuela in the dark and use it as an excuse to be even more violent and authoritarian.

Are people trying to sell their tickets? I like to see that. Maybe that will force Boing to solve the problem in a safe way.

Sorry about the million replies. And yes thats what I saw in an article this morning!
