Eating Out : Hummus Again - 10 September 2024

in #eatingout11 days ago

On a long trip back from visiting a friend we ended up in an Arts Centre Cafe in Aberystwyth in mid Wales. It was a very hot afternoon and we were a bit tired.

The cafe was nice but there happened to be a conference at the same time as we were there so the place was very busy indeed and there was little choice left on the menu that we could afford. I was lucky I was able to get my staple food :

Thinking I somehow may have been spelling the word wrongly in my previous posts here and here and to clarify my doubt I went to my trusted source wikipedia and presto :

Hummus (/ˈhʊməs/, /ˈhʌməs/;[1][2] Arabic: حُمُّص ḥummuṣ, 'chickpeas'), also spelled hommus or houmous…

According to all the possible variations the spelling on the label was not correct, but after a quick glance there was no other option for me as a vegetarian so I had to trust that this was indeed the same mashed mixture of chickpeas, tahini and spices. The price was not bad at all at nearly £3 or about 18 Steem. My hummus and roasted vegetables in a bun lacked some crunchy lettuce but I enjoyed it anyway.

There were many types of beverages available but once again I opted for my usual : Decaffeinated latte at £3 or 18 Steem. This latte was delicious and so well presented :

I have an appreciation for latte art so I did a bit of research on the topic to try and discover when this form of coffee presentation became well known. I found a succinct answer here:

The rosette pattern was then developed by Schomer in 1992, recreating the technique based on a photograph he saw at Cafe Mateki in Italy.[3] Schomer subsequently popularized latte art in his course "Caffe Latte Art".

I enjoyed this quick visit to the cafe and I’m hoping I’ll be able to return one day.
