Changing my Online Username. Starting a Streaming Channel.

in #dlive6 years ago

The end of Kiwicanfly. When I first joined Steemit I had trouble coming up with a username. I wanted to something catchy, fun and would represent New Zealand as it is kind of rare to see NZers in the big wide world of the World Wide Webisphere. (So I thought at the time) I thought the name @Kiwiscanfly fitted the criteria I was looking for, so I tried it but it was taken so I thought that was weird who else could have thought of an awesome name like that?
Then I tried Kiwicanfly instead because I couldn't think of anything else.

It turns out @Kiwiscanfly is an active user here on Steemit and we meet by happenstance when someone went to tag him in a post but they accidently tagged me instead! Kiwiscanfly was the first Kiwi I met here on Steemit and I then found a whole bunch of NZers here through the ANZUB and TeamNZ tags. They are all so helpfull if you ever need any help! @Kiwiscanfly continues to be a great friend on the platform. You should check his blog out!

So I'm going to change my display name here on Steemit. I may even make a new account. So why is this? Well after dabbling in DLive for a couple of weeks I decided to go all out and double down on my gaming and live streaming. I really liked live streaming my games so much that I want to get serious about it. I want to stream and make content for both Dlive, Twitch.tv and Youtube. I'd like to create a name that will be cohesive across all of those platforms and the other Social media platforms that accompany them in hopes that I will reach my target audience.

So you may have seen from my display name by now that I have changed my name to Radichills. I thought long and hard over what to call my new channel name and online identity as a whole. I came up with a few names and ran them by some friends to get feedback. I also used this online too to help see if the names were free to use on each platform. This was very valuable and timesaving. It saved me from having to go to each site and manually check each name. There were so many names that I thought would be good but then it turned out that those names were taken. It got a little frustrating after a while, you would like to think that what you come up with will be cool and original, but then it turns out that the name is already taken. It gets even more frustrating when you got to the those profiles and find they are inactive accounts!

I had the idea of incorporating either a prefix or suffix of 'Mo' into my username as I wanted an element of my own name in the username (my name being Moana if you didn't already know). So I tried all of the names that included 'Mo' then I found it was almost impossible! After checking the profiles with those names across all the platforms I found that I was competing with almost EVERY Mohummad on the internet! Mohummad is the most popular name on the Planet! So I had to scrap that idea and come up with a name that reflected my essence in a fun way. Well if you have seen my posts here on Steemit you would see that I like all sorts of things from gaming to gardening, cooking, food, permaculture and I also love health tips and living an alternative "Crunchy" Lifestyle. So I liked the word "Crunchy" as a word that encompasses the things that I love. I came up with the name "Crunchila", I ran it by my friends (who at this point were probably pretty sick of me by now) and they liked it. So after this exhaustive effort to find a name I finally made all the appropriate social media accounts to claim the name as my own. I used this name to start a twitch channel and I made my first Stream playing 'We Happy Few' on my Xbox. The game had just released and it was an opportune time to start streaming the game live. I had a grand total of 2 viewers and I had a great time playing the game. So after the excitement of streaming the game I told my friends about my stream but there was a problem. I had forgotten what my CHANNEL NAME WAS! This made me think that this name wasn't memorable and I started to have some doubts about it.

SO I Changed my name again. This time I borrowed an element from my old Gamer Tag 'Free Radikillz' to come with my final online username, Radichills. I liked the juxtaposition of 'radical' and 'chill'. I also could remember this name better as it was borrowed from my old gamer tag. There was a moment while I had the Crunchila name where my boyfriend referred to my channel as Radikills, so I convinced that this route would be the most memorable for me and others to remember. So my username across the board is now Radichills. It sums me up quite well I think. A little bit radical and a little bit chill (kind of Bi-polar haha). If you were wondering why I didn't choose the name of Radikillz, it's because I wasn't able to have that name across all the Social media Platforms that I wanted to use.

So that was my cool story on how I changed my online names. It was kind of a mission to get to here but it will be worth it in the end.

You can follow me outside of Steemit on most Social Media Platforms:

Twitch
Youtube
Twitter
Instgram
Facebook

All @Radichills

I hope to start posting up some streams and videos soon. I just have to set up my game room then I will get started on creating some content.

If you made it this far, Thanks for reading! This was just a little catch-up post to Steemit, documenting my process into this new streaming journey. I also want to make future posts talking about why I want to get into streaming and how I think it could help me as a person. That will be for a different post.

Anyways, Thanks for reading this rambly post. I hope you could make any sense out of it. lol
