"Dear Dawne - Comments Worth More Than Posts?" - Season 1 - Episode 4

We Have An Experienced "Steemit Personal Mentor" To Help You Directly!

(Also Newbie Nickels Added!)

General Topic: How Comments Can Be Worth More Than Posts!

I was unsure what to discuss today and I wanted to share my recent post about comments.

You Know What I've Been Noticing? MORE Interaction! MORE Thought-Filled COMMENTS! and the importance of making proper posts, carrying on conversations and helping with your visibility.

There are so many aspects to steemit; from the cryptocurrency and potential earnings, but until you know the basics and established yourself as a true steemian, those potential earnings may only be a so-called pipe dream.

When you have moment, read my post (click here) as it shows how to comment and reply.

For those of you who are not native English speaking this can be difficult, but keep in mind just making a quick sentence reply may actually hurt you. Giving some thought and adding to the post conversation is what will get you noticed.

Did you know I once earned over $45 just from one comment? Well, I did. How? Was it the right place, right time? Or did I make a positive contribution to the post and others saw it as a quality comment? Yes, the second answer.

That one comment was unbelievable to me. But I took it in stride and continued commenting.

I know many people who earn more from their comments then their last ten posts.

So please take some kind advice and when you comment, act as if it were your own post. How would you want others to reply to you? Do you want members to just post “good post” and move on? Or do you want other members to really “reply” to you?

Newbie Nickels (Available to EVERYONE for TODAY ONLY, Newbies only after that)

Anyone can play. Anyone can join. You don't have to be a newbie, to win this Newbie Nickel.

First, a Newbie Nickel is something that we at the #newbieresteemday initiative use to incentivize the newbies to play games or enter contests. Its a $0.05 upvote on their entry in the game/contest and it guarantees them something for making an effort. For some newbies this $0.05 is more than they can make on many posts, so it is indeed a way to earn "something" and to learn/engage at the same time.

How To Get Your Newbie Nickel TODAY ONLY On This Post

#1 Leave a comment to Dawne on this post. It must be a question directed at her asking for her help, or it must be a relevant observation to her topic of the day.
#2 If you leave a comment and Dawne responds, you can earn a "bonus" Newbie Nickel for a relevant additional comment to her. Note: that is (2) Newbie Nickels just by engaging Dawne and following up respectfully with her replies!
#3 Resteem this post and tell me about it in the comment section and I will give you a 1 Newbie Nickel for that! You must leave a comment to me (@davemccoy) so that @goldendawne only focuses on her discussions.

Got it? You can earn up to (3) Newbie Nickels today just by engaging in thoughtful and engaging dialogue!

When: Today!!!

We are proud to present the news that #newbieresteemday and @goldendawne have teamed up in a partnership called "Dear Dawne". @goldendawne is an accomplished member of our community and she wants to help both the members of the Newbie Resteen Initiative and alse the "newbies" we serve.

Dawne will be regularly participating with us in a program called "Dear Dawne" where she will take comments, look directly at your posts and give you one on one suggestions, (and she will even go through your blog... How's that for being awesome!). Basically she wants to be your mentor and help you with ideas, formatting, access to resources, and even applying for various grants and delegations. Plus you can get "discovered" by a valued and connected member than can help you rise through the ranks!

hi friends,,, first i would like to thanks @davemccoy for sharing this very informative post,, thank you sir,, being a newbie or a minnow is pretty tough specially for me, i can say that im not that good on using a foreign language though i can understand but to hard to write my own blog (which could catch your interest), so for that i would like to ask a help from you @davemccoy and @deardawne if what to do, being successful in steemit is i think everyone's dream but that is not my priority here,, i want to interact with the others, i want everyone to be my friend, to be my partners as i take one step higher and soon, i want to build a good relationships with all steemians. the problem is this language barrier

thank you guys,, hope you can give me some tips

Hey @mryuss this is a great question and I want @goldendawne to see it... I confused you with the name of this page which is Dear Dawne, but her name is @goldendawne ...

I am tagging her so hopefully she sees it tomorrow and comes by and offers her opinion. I will let her go first since she is my teacher ;) ...

As far as building relationships, you are doing so now. Just being honest and trying your best is all that I care about. I don't care about perfect english, in fact we could use google translator and you could speak any language!!

I'm giving you a newbie nickel right now, but please let me know if Dawne misses you (because its my fault that I confused you)

thank you @davemccoy youre such a great man.. you are helping me a lot.

you are welcome @mryuss... sorry it took me so long to respond to you... I'm glad to see you making good progress!

its okay sir,, i know you've been doing other things too, and i would like to apologize if it took me so long to digest the food for thought that you'd shared but now im enjoying its taste and its really great. I will do the same as yours i will spread your words to our fellow steemnians who are struggling on what to do while stayin'in this platform.

thank you

Very good @mryuss! That is great news to hear! The cool thing is that the more you help people to understand things, the more friends you end up making!! :)

you're absolutely right sir,, and i guess that is the very core of steemit, to build a community by means of friendship. i was fortunate to see your post earlier with that i can make a better start within this platform :)

Thank you for tagging me again Dave! SO helpful!

Hello!
I would recommend for you, since you have said that there is a language barrier concern. There is a curation trail called @mitneb and it is specifically for steemians with this issue. Check them out. They help steemians and are involved in a Discord group called @thesteemengine - you may want to join this group. They ARE GREAT!

hello maam... thanks its probably a great help for me.. i will so what you suggest thank you guys youre so nice

Dear Dawn,

First of all I wanna great you aHappy Valentine. I have a problem about formatting my content, I learned some ways like how to make bold, italisize the letters but I can't find how to hiden the url at my post, I saw others that only source shows, and when I click it leads me to the url. It's really helps me if I learn how for better content. Like this post, kindly take a look and please tell me how to improve.

In regards to enclosing your links- what you do is this
[put your title here or whatever you want it to say] then what you do is immediately put the link in between the parenthesis (the link would go here)

so what happens is when you do that you have you love story here with the link embedded - like this

oh thank you so much @goldendawn that is why I can't see, no bracket at the phone keyboard, I better use a pc for better format. Thank you so much for the time answering my stupid question lol...really help me a lot.😊

Yes using a PC or laptop can really help. I know many people do use their phones and the esteem app, but until you get used to the formatting, I would recommend a laptop.

And no question is stupid. We are all on a learning adventure here. I am still learning new things every day.

awww you are down to earth, I'm really shy to ask this, but I need to know for my better post, thank you so much you are an angel ...😊

Let me take a look at the posts and your page. I will message you about what I see!

ok dear I search it at discord @sweetcha#6664

haha... I gotcha @sweetcha!!!! ;)

lol just kidding @davemccoy don't take it seriously haha😂

Hi Dawne
Thanks for a response you gave some time ago to me that was profitable.

My question today is about voter's trail and setting your weight.

What is a voting weight and how well do i set it to get a good profit. My voting weight is 34sp

Also when using trail. What is the best time delay to use that will profit both you and the author.

Lastly how and when can one really get steem power delegation. Steem power has really been limiting me.

I had answered this about delegation in an earlier comment

Well, I was delegated SP by a dolphin/whale (who just gave it to me) and just last month I did enter a contest to try and get some more.

I would recommend looking for dolphins and whales that are having contests for delegations. Other than that, you just need to keep working as you do and maybe someone will take notice.

In regards to curation groups- I would recommend @qurator, @appreciatoR and @thesteemengine

In regards to the voting weight, I won't claim to know all the ins and outs of voting and SP but if you keep an eye on steemworld.org you can keep track of your power and tons of other information. It's the website I use the most.

Knock knock, may I come in? I hope this is the right place...I left a message for you on another (old) thread. Whoops! Note to self: check the date of the original post. Here's my post for you -

Oh my goodness, what a God send! I've been kind of lost the past 20 days, flopping around like a plankton out of water. I have a couple of questions, and am so grateful for the help!

  1. Is there are "best time to post" window?
  2. Should I just pick one topic, and stick to it until I find my groove?
  3. Do you have snacks?

Okay, so that was three questions, obviously you have snacks. ;) @davemccoy was kind enough to clear up the snack issue, so really, no need to answer that one. I would be delighted if you would check out my blog. I'm just getting started, but today I finally managed to write a couple of full-length pieces. Thank you for your input, it is greatly appreciated!

Hello! Dave mentioned you to me in a quick chat earlier! Nice to meet you!

  • Is there are "best time to post" window? Everyone is different. But I have found the best days for me for visibility are Tuesday, Thursday and Friday- between 7am EST and 3pm EST- you can look on steemworld.org to get tons of account information about yourself including voting, power, etc

  • Should I just pick one topic, and stick to it until I find my groove? I came on steemit with the main focus of gardening and homesteading. I joined a Discord community and group based on these topics and have been flying every since. You can start with one or two topics (preferably your passions) and always buid off those. I've been on here for 7 months and post more than just gardening and homesteading. I do steemit info, DIY, etc. But yes, once you find your rhythm, expansion is inevitable.

I would recommend joining DIscord if you haven't already- you really need the support of a group and commujnity.

really very helpful for newbies also for me as i'm still learning steemit, thanks for sharing this would like to resteemit with my new steemean friends. :)

Of course would love that @shohana! That is the point. Learning from others is how we improve and grow and the Dear Dawne segment with @goldendawne is awesome! Feel free to tell anyone you like we welcome everyone :)

ps... you sound like you would fit right in with our members as you have a natural instinct to help! If you want to join us, you are welcome to for sure! There are no fees or commitments, just doing the best you can!!! If you're interested just let me know :)

pps... here's a Newbie Nickel on your upvote to show you respect for helping others!

yup I'm interested and personally helping some local stemeans too! It will be my pleasure to include myself your helpful team so if you feel i'm fit for your group feel free to join me in! huge thanks!

@goldendawne, thank you for doing this. My question is about delegation. I've been on Steemit for a little over a month, and have been fortunate enough to have a 500SP delegation through the #adoptaminnow initiative. (Thank you @topkpop.) I've been enjoying my slider! I spend at least three-times as much time curating and commenting as I do posting.

Well, that delegation is ending this month, and I don't want to give up my slider or my ability to give small but worthwhile boosts to posts as I'm curating. I was thinking of trying to find others who are offering SP delegation. I'm also thinking of becoming a curator for one of the bigger curation groups. So I guess my question is twofold:

Do you have recommendations for specific curation groups, and do you know of delegation opportunities coming up or happening now?

You can also lease SP if you want to go that route. I can explain the economics and decision tree if you want to go that route too. Its easy to do, but you need someone to help you the first time because their directions are weak.

Let me know if you're interested my bright shining friend!

@deardawne, Sometimes, when you're "late" to a post and there are lots and lots of comments, it is difficult to interact because most other comments might have huge upvotes and your comment gets stuck at the bottom. Mostly, it may not be read. What is your advice as regards such an issue?

No not at all. You would have to be online 24/7 to be able to keep up with ALL the action and posts. WHat I usually do it make my comment. Then I scroll through the others comments and will sometimes comment on those. The more you talk and comment, the more visibility you give yourself.

Thank you @goldendawne
I don't know how you do it, but you have a way of just making things very simple
It's admirable!
Thanks again

You're welcome!
I would recommend every day when you log on to steemit- take a DEEP breath and just start scrolling. Find interesting topics and posts and make your comment and commit to making one or two more comments to others on the same post. In no time this will become second nature and this will develop your visibility as well as get you a more solid following.

Good luck!

Thanks! @goldendawne I will take any advice that comes from you. They tend to produce positives. :D

If you ever need anything, find me on Discord to. They set up a channel in the newbieresteem group for me

This post has been resteemed @davemccoy
Nickel please! haha :D

you get 2 so far... You are a smart guy @ossyjay... after she responds, you can go for 3 ;)

And that will clinch it! I'm loving these newbie nickles :D

"Dear Dawne" How do you balance a healthy life style while putting so much time into Steemit?
Joy

My husband works anywhere from 60-70 per week and I am a stay at home wife so I have dedicated mysefl to steemit as a career.

I am very fortunate to be able to do this. I know many people don't have this luxury.

I spend my days in between steemit, household tasks, errands and other online things. I find a nice equalization with it all. Plus I have a VERY supportive husband.

Thank you for sharing. I had new years resolutions listed. Next year I will just have one. Life is a balancing act. Lol. Joy

great question Joy... You get an extra nickel for that!!!

Dave I resteemed this post.
