Lunch break news #1: WannaCry's back in the news again (before getting abruptly taken down)...

in #crypto7 years ago (edited)

So welcome to lunch break news #1, a totally not scheduled addition to my roster! Anyways these are things that caught my attention during my browsing of the news during my new officially mandated lunch break at my new job!

The first part: an emergency/alarm bell that probably did not escape most of you professional Cyber punks out there. Looking at you @ausbitbank 😉. The researcher who stopped the wannacry randomware by discovering its kill switch was nabbed by the FBI... apparantly without any reason as to the charges. Immediately after this was reported on, the articles that reported on this dissapeared! Totally not fishy or anything. I guess we will have to hope there are some answers in the future, and as always speculation is welcome down below! Maybe he's the one who created the malware?

Second part, somewhat less flashy: The wannacry hacker's bitcoin was cashed out, from 3 separate wallets, fetching a price of about 140,000$.

Now I gotta get back to serving people stuff and making sure to not drop their food! Toodles until later!
