One of the Best "Chippy" in North West London /

There is nothing more British than a good old hearty meal of traditional-style fish and chips. I hope many of you would agree with me, lol. Chances are there's one not too far away from you if you happen to live in the London area. Freshly cooked, piping hot fish and chips, with a sprinkling of salt and vinegar sauce, on a cold winter night. Nothing much beats that, haha!

In a word, Fish and Chips is consider a national dish here in the UK and most people love it. According to a research study back in 1999, its inhabitants consumed nearly 300 million servings of fish and chips, equating to six servings for every man, woman and child in the country! That sounds incredible, right?

If you are not familiar with this dish, it is essentially a deep-fried crispy batter wrapped around a fish (normally either a cod, pollock or haddock). And it comes with hand cut chips, not your regular french fries.

Today was just one of those days that I was really craved some of this delicious food. So @ezzy and I paid a visit to our regular chippie called “Mr Fish”.

Mr Fish is located in the heart of Queens Park, right opposite of Queen’s Park tube station. The restaurant has been well established for over 20 years as @ezzy remembers this shop from since he was just a little boy! Mr Fish has always preparing their meals using the freshest ingredients, employing traditional methods to produce a consistently high standard of food. Exactly what you'd expect given its popularity around here! Many locals even as far as to say this is the best Fish and Chip shops in North West London!

The venue itself is spotless and very well maintained. The words "clean" and "inviting" spring to mind. This isn’t a place where you would choose for a fine dining experience but then again that's not what Fish & Chips establishment were made for. Jaya, our lovely waitress, gave us a warm welcoming and provided us with menus. I cannot recall a time when there wasn't a warm smile on her face. How sweet!

Mr Fish offers a delightful menu including the standard fish and chips option. All the fish comes traditionally cooked in batter, but also can be fried as a "Matzo" meal or in breadcrumbs as an alternative. In addition, they serve juicy burgers, chicken scampi and salads, etc.

We opted for the "signature" cod fish and chips (UK's most popular choice). The fish was really fresh and cooked to perfection with just the right amount of batter, perfectly flaky and crisp. Just tiny bite melts in your mouth! Though the most important part is that it comes without any excess grease! I've been to places where the food is literally soaked with dripping fat, but thankfully not here. And finally, the dish goes amazingly well with either vinegar or tartar sauce.

The chips were excellent. Crispy, golden and utterly delicious!

Deep Fried Calamari Rings is another side I simply love here. The way they cooked it provides the perfect "crunch" outside while keeping the squid flavour nicely tucked inside. Again, crisp to the bite and seriously delicious!

Feeling particularly hungry, we also ordered the "Battered Sausage". Another staple favourite of the British people. Essentially it is a rather large sausage smothered in batter and usually served on it's own. All in all, a great afternoon much that the whole family can enjoy on a Sunday afternoon, lol.

As a quick side note, Mr Fish also provides a convenient take away section on the other side of the front entrance.

I found both the food and service to be of excellent quality. As always, we came away feeling very full and satisfied. Mr Fish is probably my favourite "chippy" (local slang, lol) in London. If you are ever in around this side of town, I would highly recommend Mr Fish for enjoying some authentic, classical tasting British fish and chips!

Fish and Chip

looking delicious

Friday night is pretty much fish and chips night lol

Good routine, lol.

Lovely post.
When I was a child and stayed with my grandparents, my grandad would give me sixpence to spend on a bag of chips at the fish shop on the corner. They were always almost too hot to hold in their twist of greaseproof and newsprint (fish and chips were sometimes wrapped in yesterday's newspapers).
A big treat on holidays by the seaside was a fish supper, served with thickly-buttered white sliced bread and strong tea in thick china cups.
It was a surprise when I moved to the Midlands to discover fish and chips were inseparable from mushy peas - a lumpy and very hot puree of marrowfat peas.
I'm impressed with how much you managed to eat!

I love your memories of the fish and chips, lol.

calamari is my FAVORITE! :) i love a good chippy! :)

Thanks. :)

Wanna visit the place especially with your recommendation!😋

And you won't regret it. :)

Yes, I definitely agree with you on the fact that fish and chips is the national English dish. You know I've lived in the UK for almost 8 years and I've never tried it? I don't like fried food so I always choose something else when we go out and they happen to have fish and chips on the menu, but some of my friends eat it and like it.

As a traveller, I know that I could be pretty hard to look for a good fish and chips in London even though it's originally from there. I have been to many places in London and the only one I found which was pretty good around oxford street. Anyway, I am glad that you found your prefect spot for this crispy goodness. Looking forward to see more from you!
